E92 335i VS Ecoboost Mustang

I certainly wouldn't say thrive above 4500rpm. While that is an interesting curve. Generally speaking the n54 falls flat at about 5800rpm. Taking it to redline is a time waster.

Here is a dyno from my 135i. All downhill after about 5500rpm.

What kind of times did that beast run? That is a nice chart!

lol in your dreams. You need to actually drive both before you quote fairy tale numbers off the internet. My 335i was darn close to my 2015 GT stock vs stock. the EB isn't even in that conversation. my sisters V6 Toyota Camry will give the EB all it wants.

I don't believe that. I have a friend who owns a modded 335i e92m (dyno at 340), and another with the m235i and they were about two car lengths behind me when it was all said and done.
the V6 in the camry is around 268hp. that's why everyone drives them like a race car.

I drove 3 different 228's, had a loaner for a week. They all were pretty stout, felt every bit as fast as the EB. Both cars have small engines pushing a heavy car around. Both are "buzzy" but can attain decent times. Very similar straight line performance. The EB is the better handler though.

idk about better handling. if anything that's where the BMW would shine...
granted, the new mustangs have pretty amazing handling.

I had a friend in my auto 335i (now stock, still have it) do runs against me in my GT when I had about a thousand miles on her. 335i held its own up to the 60 mark every time and a lot of that had to do with me launching my car for the first time. It gets walked on rolling starts. Stout midrange but damn those turbos wheeze in the top end.

Every BMW I've driven with the "sport" package suspension has had better body control than my Mustang. Friendly balance of neutral/understeer with well matched spring/damper rates. Wouldn't say they're better for performance driving but they're easier to drive fast on public roads; they make you a better driver than you really are.

My car only has 190 miles on it, best times so far 5.0, 13.2. 87 octane from dealer im sure with no practice. My best times with my 335i 5.0, 13.4 I expect the GT to get into the 12.7 range after being broken in and with better gas but right now there is very little difference.
All the new BMW's i have driven(2012 up) have shitty steering no matter what mode you put it in. Even though the numbers are good, the "feel" is not. The eb i drove was a great handler, steering feel was really good. Admittedly i skipped the m235i because of the quirky styling.

also what I meant was, the power is peaked around 4500, if you are shifting at 5800 at WOT you will not fall under 4500 RPM. so youll still be at peak power. if that makes sense. in my mind it does.
I had a 335i but it was never put on a dyno. bone stock. im guessing I was pushing about 280 to the wheels.

Mods are on in the chart title. Was fbo, with a ptf etune - so accessport. What you are saying makes sense.

Bloody track that was about 2 miles away from me closed down about 2 months before I got the car. So never actually had her out.

Generally speaking with my mods, cars are running low 12s at about 115-117. I would have run slower as I am at about 3800 feet and the numbers in the dyno is corrected to the tune of about 12%.

Still, it was pretty crazy car being only about 3300 pounds and all that torque. Car was sooo good from a 3rd gear roll. My stock GT needs to not be stock anymore.

DaveM3, do you have a dog in this race? Actually you need to activate sport (suspension and or drive train depending on how you configured the switch), then hold the DSC button. We are talking contemporary F20-22s here :shrug:

If you push down the sport button twice it moves it to sport +,which adjusts the throttle setting and the suspension. Holding the DSC button down turns off the DSC. A different issue than the sport+. On my M3 I just have to hit the Mbutton once, and I am in full boogie.

This. My buddy has a n54 335i with jb4 on map 5 (auto tuning map). We did a pull in 2-4th. I had him by half a hood. The 6m has a ridiculously high gear ratio that makes is super strong at high speeds (I belive it's a 3.08). Honestly if he ran a 3.55 I think he would pull me pretty convincingly. The only thing saving me currently is he has a brief moment of lag after every shift. If he gets a downpipe or runs e85 I'm not gonna stay remotely close.

Even my buddy's tuned mk7 gti was respectable against my gt. He is apr tuned, and while I slowly walked away from him, I was surprised that it was only a few cars behind at the top of 4th. Again with a downpipe and reflash he's gonna be faster than me stock.

Ok, live in denial. There are also no 12 second EB Mustangs and all GTs run high 11's with bolt ons. Your world is a safer place now.

seems pretty even to me. considering its a inline 4 turbo and the e92 is a inline 6 twin turbo

IMO ~no, but it depends...from light-to-light the N54 will walk you with no problem.
I currently drive a 135i w/6MT, basically same drivetrain as the 335i just in a smaller somewhat lighter body. I have flat-out smoked v-6 Mustangs & Camaros. Even smoke-checked a big Audi.

Will trade my 1er once my DIB arrives next month, hate to let go of it but can't afford to hotrod a Mustang and The Ultimate Driving Machine simultaneously.

bmw doesn't compare, #1 costs 15k more #2 interior unacceptable, #3 repair costs, #4 generic styling. test drove and had to drive 2014 328i for a month while my car was in body shop due to some idiot rear ending me and was soooo glad i waited for 2015 mustang. bmw has done a great job developing their brand, but if they don't do something with the ext styling and int tech options it will start damaging that brand.

Well in defense of the 335, you drove a 328i. 2 less cylinders and noticeably slower. The 328 makes at the crank what the 335i puts out at the wheels. Apples to oranges.

As for exterior that's subjective. The new 335i coupe looks waaay better than the e9x 335i coupe. Interior wise they are actually quite nice too. I agree you're gonna spend premium dough to get it and your maintenance costs will be high. It's tough to say bmw is "going to hurt" is branding when the 3 series is consistently picked as a top vehicle year after year.
