E85

So, due to my being a retard, I seem to have missed something.

With a 2016 GT you can simply get an E85 tune, and then fill up with the E85, and BAM!!! 25 or so extra HP?

Am I missing something? Nothing needs to be done to the stock car?

You just need a tune, that's it.

Flex tune, you can just toss in E85 whenever you want and not be that concerned about it, as it will automatically make adjustments. You can go to 93, to E85, to 91, back to E85 without having to do anything.

To run a dedicated E85 tune (can be tuned to be a bit more aggressive over Flex), you still only need a tune but you will need to monitor the E85 content by testing it as this tune would not be making adjustments automatically and is expecting X amount of ethanol at all times.

Interested in hearing more about this. Haven't considered switching to E-85 unless I went FI due to availability but switching between tunes when needed sounds like a good solution.

I'm confused too. I thought a tune would give 25 or more with regular gasoline.

If it doesn't what's the point as far as I'm concerned.

Pretty sure he means 25 more HP (Maybe 10-15whp) over a 93 tune. The point is one, E85 is basically like running high octane race gas at a small fraction of the cost. I usually pay around $1.6X per gal. Yes, you do burn more but I don't feel like I get much more out of a tank of 93 if I am running the car. E85 also burns cooler, thus less heat on your heads/pistons which "can" allow for more aggressive timing if it's safe. It's also less prone to pre-detonation which is the thing that can make a car go BOOM. The other benifit of a flex tune is the ability to adapt to multiple rating octanes without not having to switch around tunes. E85 is way more beneficial to a turbo/blown car but if you can get it, why not?

E85 is anywhere from 100 -- 113 octane depending on which source you use, and significantly cheaper than race gas. Basically, you get all the benefits of running a higher octane fuel at a much lower price, while still being able to use gasoline in a pinch.

Most of the benefit of e85 on a stock motor is from e85 having 30% oxygen content. Even the best race fuels only have around 11%. The higher octane on a stock motor does nothing.

I get about 13mpg on e85 vs 18mpg on gas. E85 is also $1.50 a gallon and 93 is $2.50 or more. So it's cheaper to run e85 for me.

Ok, I'm missing something. My 17 GT says E15 at the gas cap. I take this to mean that it can only handle up to 15% ethanol. Anything more would mess up the fuel system. Right?

My F150 says E85, so it's ready for 85% ethanol.

Our GT's would have to be tuned to run E85 per the OP.

Let me try again. If I put E85 in my 95 SVT it would destroy the fuel system. Why won't it mess up the S550 fuel system? Has the S550 been designed to handle E85?

The rubber neoprene used in the last 20 + years is resistant to the drying effect that ethanol may have. Since the 80's American manufactures have adapted all fuel systems to be compatible with ethanol. You need not worry. Only be concerned with the tune and injector size using E85 will need.
