E85 Gas Jugs

Thinking about E85. Quick question in regards to fuel storage in 5-gallon jug. Can you store E85 fuel in a normal fuel 5-gallon jug red, or diesel jug yellow, for several weeks to a month at a time?

Ethanol will be ethanol forever under normal conditions. It's the gas that'll go bad. You'll be fine. Actually you'll be fine almost indefinitely if it's well sealed.

I store mine in red cans from autozone. They stay sealed to the point the cans build up a lot of pressure in the heat

If you can try to find green jugs, since that is the color on the fuel nozzle for E-85. regardless of color jug you get make they are clearly labeled E-85 so everyone knows what is in them, especially the local fire fire dept in case the worst case scenario happens.

Color of the jug shouldn’t matter as long as you know what’s in it. A proper seal is more important as the fuel naturally wants to absorb moisture. I use 3 gallon (they hold 4 easily) VP jugs for home use because they fit in the trunk easily and are more manageable filling the car. I use four 11 gallon Flo-fast jugs on the trailer for when I take the car to road course events. I don’t store the fuel as long as you’re planning to but it shouldn’t be a problem. You can always test it with a simple vial tester.

As mentioned above. Color doesn’t really matter. I also used the high flow race jugs pictured above. Mainly because they hold about 6.5 gallons and they pore way better than a modern gas can with that anti spill crap built inside em. Jegs or summit has the best prices for the race jugs.

Color doesn't matter except when you run into a flunky at the gas station who will not let you fill your can because it's not the correct color for what you are trying to buy. I've seen it happen. A guy was trying to buy some 87 for his lawnmower and the clerk shut off his pump when he saw the guy had a yellow jug. Granted I have never seen anyone get there pump shut off when using a red jug, no matter what they were putting in it, but there is always a first time.
