Think big! Wait a little bit for the GT500 shafts. They will hold up.

They should be very good but may not be available for awhile. We don't know about pricing, either. I picked up a driver's side GT350 shaft this morning from Autonation Ford. It appears to be a pretty beefy piece.

You are just doing the drivers side then? How much was that shaft?

Driver's side was $167. Passenger side is $138. I am doing the driver's side first and am undecided on the passenger side. I haven't found anyone who has ever broken the passenger side stock shaft. If the installation on the driver's side goes well, I will probably do the passenger side. I am not sure the 350 passenger side is much if any different than stock, though.

It is a cold snowy day in Minneapolis so I pulled out my stock driver's side half-shaft and will be installing a GT 350 shaft. Following are some pictures showing the differences. Note that the mid section diameter of the stock shaft is a tiny bit larger than the 350 shaft. However, the ends where they go into the CV joint are much larger on the 350 shaft....about a 1/4 inch wider using caliper for measurement....a significant difference. Additionally, the CV joints are larger on the 350 shaft. The 350 shaft weighs about 25.5 pounds and the stock shaft weighs 21.2 pounds.....a pretty notable difference.

Not using any power tools or having any help, it took me a couple of hours to disassemble the rear suspension and pull the shaft. I completely removed the rotor and hub. A shortcut is to leave the bottom bolts in the hub and just pull it down enough to remove the axle from it. I chose to remove it completely so I would have more room to work. I was a bit worried about prying the axle out but using two big screwdrivers for pry bars, and putting them in opposing positions, it popped out fairly easily. My goal was not to see how fast I could do it. If I do the other side, I will be able do it in much less time now that I know what I am doing.

I am pretty pleased with this upgrade.

Thanks for the update Bruce. Is the factory right side necked down like the drivers side too?

The right side is much smaller diameter but is not smaller at the ends. I need to do some research to determine the difference between the right side stock and 350 shafts. They are different part numbers but they look about the same to me. The left side is a nice upgrade, though, I am convinced of that.

Here are right sides with the 350 shaft on top. I grabbed this pic from another thread. I don't see any difference.

I just went to replace my drivers side half shaft with the GT350 one. Before I removed the stock one I noticed that they looked nearly identical, but figured I may not be able to tell the difference until I had it removed and could weigh and compare them side by side. After removal they both weigh 25.4 lbs and appear nearly identical. I've got a 2018 PP1 with an MT82, 3.73 gears, and mag ride. I'm planning on re-installing the stock shaft and returning the 350 one. It's just confusing having similar specs to everyone else, with the exception of mag ride. I wonder if the magnaride cars share the same half shaft specs? The 350 shaft is on top.

Could be a mag ride or upgrades done to PP cars. Nice find. I was thinking about ordering these. I have an auto though.

On 2018+ models, manual transmission cars have a different left side halfshaft than cars with the automatic.

Yeap. Very interesting. The 2015-2019 (GT) autos have the same part number.

I ran into this when I was doing my research. On 2018 GTs, manual car left side shafts have a different part number, cost more and are heavier than those on cars that have the automatic.

So is it safe to say that the 2018 on manual cars share the same drivers side shaft as the 350?
