So since I'm going forced induction later down the road I don't want to fork out for a cai unless I get a killer deal. My question is near me I've found two drop in aftermarket filters. The k&n oiled and AEM non oiled filter. Anyone have experience with these two? Or tuned experience? I've heard our Stock paper filter doesn't flow very well. Unless I've been mislead? Mainly hoping to pick up any better mpg I can on freeway and maybe the 1 or 2hp that come with? If that haha

I have the aFE Pro Dry (non oiled). If it picked up any power, I really couldn't tell, same for fuel economy. I mainly wanted a reusable filter that is less restrictive than stock.

Same here. I had a K&N drop-in filter for a while. Honestly couldn't say that it did anything but who knows. Ended up getting a great deal from Steeda on their CAI with restrictor (no tune) so I have that running now.

These cars respond to even small things. I have no preference with the air filters. Whichever one is cheaper is the one I'd go with. You should get some increased throttle response. I say go one step further and get the Airaid MIT along with the filter. You'll definitely notice some gains.

Oiled filters can contaminate the MAF. K&N's also don't filter as well compared to stock and non oiled filters. I'm not sure the minimal (if any) benefit is worth that.

I'll probably go dry filter when mine is ready to be changed.

Agreed. And I went with the aFe Magnum FLOW OER Pro DRY S Air Filter. Click on the link in my journal:

I'm not sure what happened to my pictures, but I put links so you can still see them.

I don't know what it seems that people have against K&N, but I never had one with enough oil on it to contaminate a MAF. And I have never seen a difference between K&N, AFe, or any other brand. Every K&N I have used worked perfectly, filtered as well as the others, and never caused one issue.

How do you know it filtered as well as the others? Have you ever looked inside your intake? You might be surprised by how much gets through.

I made lots of money back in the 90s from K&Ns contaminating mafs.. with many customers saying just just put it in a few months ago..

I check it often. Never noticed anything unusual.

I always told people that you don't have to dump the entire bottle of oil on it. You oil it lightly, let it sit, and you're fine. The problems aren't because of the filter. Its because people can't follow instructions. I saw one guy literally pour the bottle of oil on it. Dry filters are simply to cut out human error from the equation. If it is oiled correctly then it'll work fine with no issues. I never had one issue over the past 2 decades.

Well we have very different experiences. Drop in and go with me, never had a problem. After a year I'd take it out, clean it, oil it lightly, let sit for a few hours or overnight, and then reinstall it. I bet you anything that people were getting them, opening them up, dumping more oil on them, and then putting them in. Which is why I said that if you do it properly and according to the instructions then you'll be fine. Dry filters are just fool proof tho. But you can't blame the product when a person does it incorrectly. Like I said, I saw a guy dump the entire bottle onto the filter once.
