It is very hard to make a choice on exhaust systems by listening to recordings on you-tube or other internet sites. And I can't possibly listen to them all in person.

But I will definitely upgrade the full system on my soon to delivered 2015 GT Premium (non-PP), from headers all the way back to polished exhaust tips. The problem will be drone. If there is drone in the cabin at highway speed (say 65-75) my wife will never let me hear the end of it. So, I am asking for feedback - which products will minimize or exclude drone? Which are the ones to avoid? Thanks in advance for advice!

If you do a full exhaust, I doubt you are going to get rid of all the drone. With longtube headers and bigger diameter exhaust you will add some serious volume. The heavy suitcase is designed exactly to get rid of drone, and when you eliminate this and replace with a H or X-pipe you are almost certain to add some drone unless you have really restrictive mufflers.

Best way to eliminate drone may be to eliminate what is in the passenger seat

I went back to my stock system after having the ford racing touring catback. That system sounded incredible with 3k rpm and up throttle. What bothered me were a few things. If this wasn't my daily driver I would have been very happy with the system and left it on. At 65mph in 6th gear it was fairly quiet, but I'm rarely on the highway.

(1) Low rpm deep sound/drone in my cabin. It was hard to talk to passenger driving around town, and made me turn my radio up to near halfway.

(2) Every single take off sounded like I was trying to race, even when I was driving like and old lady.

(3) The extra large exhaust tips did not appeal to me.

(4) My neighbors were getting annoyed with cold start ups. It was pretty loud at 6am.

Aside from all this I LOVED THE SOUND.

most people confuse drone for being able to hear the exhaust...where as drone is if you stuck your head in a large bell and some rang the bell with a big hammer...

so if you hear the exhaust does not necessarily mean it's "droning"... there is a difference between sound and tone vs constant echoing annoying hum in the cabin driving you insane.

I usually stick to Borla products. I had a bad drone experience with Flowmaster years ago and I switched to Borla and have used them ever since with no drone on any vehicle.

Has anyone experienced drone with the stock exhaust? Or does it only occur with aftermarket exhausts typically?

The reason I ask is because I hear/feel something very similar to what everyone has described as drone in my car @ 2000 rpm. Zero mods to the car thus far.

Sorry but any header upgrade will end up with high in cabin noises, drone i believe is caused by the sound frequencies coming from the exhaust system causing detonation and unwanted vibrations in the car or the exhaust system. When you are accelerating the exhaust note might cover the drone however, at cruising speeds and low rpm its more noticable. I think if you really want a quiet cabin for your family but enhance the exhaust note on the outside of the car, all u have left is a Corsa or similar nondrone tech axle back.

No, the stock exhaust is so muffled there's no way it's drone. Unless you *feel* it, its just sound. Drone is something you'll feel through the cabin in both sound and resonating vibrations.

There's a (very) slight vibration in the steering wheel in addition to the different pitch/tone in sound.

Long tube headers are pretty much gonna make every exhaust system drone. I had S types on my 05' and loved the no drone sound. Then I got greedy and added long tubes with hi flow cats and bam, drone city. Don't get me wrong, the setup produced one of the best sounding cars on the road I just hated the drone. I will not be doing long tubes this time around. My Whipple gets installed soon and even though lt's would get me some more ponies I'd rather the enjoyment of everyday driving with no drone than an extra 20 ish rwhp lt's would get me.

Exactly. To add to this, in my experience a lot of people say they don't want drone simply because others say it is bad with x setup and don't really know what it is.

I have the FRPP Sport, which is significantly louder than the Touring but there is no drone. It is however loud - VERY loud when accelerating. When cruising at highway speed I do hear the exhaust, but it a normal rumble and not an annoying drone. Is it louder than stock? Absolutely, and I'd be pissed if it were not. You can't expect to have it louder outside and still silent inside. These are Mustangs, not Mercedes with double-pane glass and a few hundred pounds of sound deadening insulation.

Hear the rumble. Feel the rumble. Enjoy the rumble.

Thank you all for great input. I expect the exhaust to be louder. Jeez - I want it to louder! Especially when accelerating. But I can't handle annoying drone on simple highway cruising. It will drive me nuts. And I have to be able to talk to the passenger.

just pick some mufflers and resonators and take it to a muffler shop and let them weld it all together but even that honestly would probably be barely louder that stock and much just as restrictive... maybe... dunno i'm not the expert lol
