What axle ratio do you have? If you have the 3.15s then yes the car is sluggish. You really need the 3.55 gears in the auto. It's a night and day comparison according to everyone that has the 3.55s and has driven the 3.15s.
+1

False. My auto with 3.15's ran low 11's N/A and was far from sluggish.;)
lol. OP is running a brand new, bone stock GT A/T, not a GT with full bolt-ons and a tune. Stock for stock there's a very noticeable difference between the 3.15's and 3.55's.

I drive with the paddle shifters 100% of the time. Always in sport mode, and traction mode is always all the way turned off, lol. I don't even know what it feels like to put it in "D" (it's been since like last August since it was in there and since I've driven without paddle shifters).

I used my paddles 100% of the time when I had my M3...for some reason I can't get the feel of them in this car. I drive in S mode but rarely use the paddles...

I use Drive (D) for town driving and sometimes I might need to lose some speed without showing brake lights so I use the paddles to shift down and get some engine braking.

I use Sport (S) for mountains, spirited driving and getting away quickly from the lights but I don't use the paddles.

On motorways I use Sport (S) and use the paddles for Manual mode so that the transmission stays in gear and I can power past traffic using engine power and without taking off by changing down the gears.

What is the difference in selection Sport with the shifter and Sport with the toggles? It feels the same to me.

S on shifter once you press the pedals, it remains in pedals mode.
Sport mode with D on shifter, it does not remain in pedal mode.
Both modes give you sport shift pattern.

I drove both and found the 3.15's felt faster. Which they are.;)
I have yet to see ANY real evidence the 3.15's are faster (stock vs stock). In reality, they are most likely a tie. The 3.55's have the torque multiplication advantage but slight disadvantage of potentially running out of gear in 3rd through the 1/4 traps. The 3.55's should be king in the 1/8 permitting traction.
I have owned both and the 3.55's CLEARLY feel stronger in the first 2 gears/around town. Feels quicker than my manual GT did (when stock) as well.

Either way the GT is strong with either gear. The 3.55's feel more lively/ fun around town and fit my style of driving. This car will never see the track.
I test drove the 3.15 before buying mine and it felt like my old 3.15 14' GT did and almost didn't buy it. Once I test drove the 3.55, I was like now we're talking.

In the base auto do you have stability control? I've heard from some people you can turn of TCS and also turn off stability control by holding the button down. I've tried this on my base GT but it doesn't work. I guess this only works on the premium GT with the selectable drive modes?

AFAIK, it seems the base GT only has traction control (advancetrac) and nothing else.

There is no evidence. It's like the S197 guys claiming their faster because their 10 pounds lighter and have a solid rear.:frusty:Everyone likes to claim what they picked is the bestest ever.

Auto with 3.15s here. There is a noticeable difference in how the car drives from D to the sport or track modes. On my test drive I had fun just in D, but I wasnt impressed by epic proportions. After turning around, I put the car in S+, and then Track with paddles, and the car handled quite different. I was impressed after that.

M3 has a DSG/SMG gear box totally different than the autos in the s550

All cars come with Advancetrac (stability control) and traction control.

For base cars press trac button once leave advtrac on and turns the trac control off. Pushing twice quickly (sport mode) leaves both on but turns down the sensitivity. At a stop push brake and hold button for 8secs turns everything off.

If you ever messed around in the rain and tried sliding the rear out you will def tell when the advtrac kicks in

The holding of the rpms in each gear in this method makes the car almost impossible to drive, it's out of bounds touchy.
