This has probably been discussed numerous times, but this is my first mustang with the auto transmission. I really haven't got on it much yet as I wanted to break it in the first 500 miles or so, but now I passed that. So I noticed it dosen't really feel as fast as my manual did, say 0-60 although I haven't measured it yet. Just wondering what you guys do when you want to do a little spirited driving? Do you put it in sport or track mode and/or use the paddle shifters? Also when passing a car, do you just floor it in top gear or downshift a gear or two? I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually, but don't want to mess something up.

On the highway, I usually have it in Sport and, if I want to pass someone, i just hit the gas and the car does everything else. If I'm not in Sport, then I'll generally use the paddles to drop a gear to pass someone. Just play with your new toy, you'll find out what suits you best.

* TRUST US ...... Lund tune.... you will swear you awoke the BEAST!!!!
I drive it around everyday in Sport mode with trac assist off.

When I race or get serious, I turn the TRAC ASSIST all the way off by holding the
switch up for about 8 seconds. You'll see.

Trust me the autos with WHOOP 99% of the sticks mod for mod.
The TUNE is the big thing!!!

I only drive in sport

I know I'm an EB, but still got an auto. I feel D lugs the shit outta the engine and I don't wanna be another one of those blown up Ecostangs

Can't comment on Lund, but definitely a tune can wake it up

Being a new car like mine. I didn't want to void my warranty with a tune. I used to drive around town in s mode. But sometimes the aggressive shift pattern can get tiring. I purchased a PEDAL COMMANDER. WOW! I cam fine tune my aggressiveness thru my gas pedal. I can keep it in drive know and the car feels responsive. Trust me you will be happy. Also, people will tell you it does nothing but trick the throttle into responding quicker and is snake oil. Well I have it and it works. Do not confuse it with Pedalmax. I looked at both. Pedal Commander is cheaper and has a lot more options. Do a search. I have a thread started.

I drive it in Sport all the time, and use the paddles 98 % of the time - I miss the slush box in the middle but she is plenty fast according to the several German and other sports casualties that I have been able to out drive on a road in Mexico somewhere...uhem...

Slap that sucker in sport plus and go to it. I havent done a tune for the same reason as you!

These autos are pretty bullet proof even with high HP and TQ #'s. You wouldn't even be able to scratch it with a stock motor.

Thanks for the tips. What about taking off from a stop? I noticed its a litlle sluggish in normal mode (a little better in sport). I tried revving it just a little with the brake pressed and all that did was spin the tires. I haven't tried track mode yet. Isn't there supposed to be a launch control feature or is that just for manuals? I couldn't find anything about it in the owners manual. Its probably in there somewhere, but the Index is not very useful.

What axle ratio do you have? If you have the 3.15s then yes the car is sluggish. You really need the 3.55 gears in the auto. It's a night and day comparison according to everyone that has the 3.55s and has driven the 3.15s.

False. My auto with 3.15's ran low 11's N/A and was far from sluggish.;)

Stability Control page 145 in the manual

Once it gets more than 5k miles on it will feel much better. Every new car- truck i have owned felt slow until it got a few k miles on it.

I concur, I also have 3.15 gears, though sluggish in Normal, it wakes
up in Sports Mode+ (Beast Mode).

By most accounts the auto is quicker than the manual, but you need to be driving in one of the advanced modes for it to feel that way. Otherwise the auto in D shifts more for economy than raw power, whereas with a manual you're probably shifting higher in the powerband most of the time.

Sport-Mode will hold the revs and shift close to red for you, and very quickly too. The only thing I hate are the auto downshifts in sport toggle mode (without touching the paddles). It's very rough and abrupt, not sure if that gets fixed in a tune. You can toggle for sport and then downshift early with the paddles to avoid that. It'll stay automatic while avoiding some of the jerk. Though at this point I tend to just use the paddles, especially since I tend to drive around in D and then pull the shifter back to S when I want to go without dicking with finding the right toggle switch and flicking it enough times (yes, I put it in snow/wet mode once and put my foot down like a tard).

As far as passing, you can paddle downshift in any of the modes. With the shifter still in D the computer will eventually take over again after a few seconds, but you'll still get that pull from a lower gear. You can also double-tap your paddle to change a couple gears at a time.

The only thing I noticed which irks me a bit is the clunk at WOT with the paddles from 1st to 2nd. I'm not exactly sure but it feels like the paddles force a quicker gear change than just letting the computer do it in sport-toggle.
