Driver's headlight not aligned to panels

Have a look at these four photos of my two headlights.

Top View - rear corner of driver's lamp assembly pokes out past the fender, while the passenger side tucks in a little.
Front View - there is a gap between the inboard side of the driver's lamp and the bumper cover.

Yes, I've had the bumper cover off, and I am willing to take it off again to fix this.

Who knows the root cause of this misalignment, before I get jiggy with it?

I don't think it's a headlight misalignment, it's the bumper. There's a clip right by the headlight and if its not in properly it creates a gap from the headlight. I have the same issue atm also. I got work done at a shop and I think they broke that clip. I didn't have any gap before but now mine looks exactly like yours... Prob a little worse if anything

Thanks. Let's say I remove the bumper. Do you know if the HL assembly can be adjusted/repositioned a little first, so that it does not "argue" with the cover while I reinstall it?

lol... been searching for it since my original reply.... haven't hit it yet

I made a little improvement. There were no broken tabs on the headlamp. But I'm sure there are more supports that I can't see or get to.
Used a washer behind the screw that holds it, to push it forward into the bumper.
Pushed inboard on the assembly before tightening that screw, to pull in that rear corner.
Then a half turn on the aiming screw to bring the beam up to the right elevation.
