I normally just read forums but hardly post anything, I guess it might because I don't have much to ask since a lot of my questions are usually answered already or I just wait to see if someone else asks the question that I've been wondering about as well. I figured I'd give this a question a shot since this might be an odd one, but here we go anyways. I've seen on various models that there is a strut tower brace on the driver side that goes to the firewall, I've seen it on the Ecoboost models and a GT Premium Auto also, they do not have the brace that goes between the two shock towers just the one that goes to the firewall. Mine does not have that brace and I've seen a picture of a V6 without it either, what dictates what models have this brace? Hopefully the picture uploads with the brace in question is highlighted. I have a GT Premium with Auto transmission and was curious why my does not have this brace.

Performance Pack (GT and EcoBoost) cars get the black brace going back to the firewall.

Non-Performance Pack cars with 20" rims get that black brace.

Any other car gets the "half brace" which is plastic.

I just bought the stock Strut Tower Brace and the full black brace. Here is a comparison of the full black brace, and the "half brace".

The full black brace is shipped exactly like you see it... no packaging, so I'll have to paint it, since it got nicked up a bit.

By the way, the "half brace" is really just a support for the battery cover and the cowl (which is why I keep putting it in quotes, since it really isn't a brace at all). :)

The strut tower brace is only on Performance Pack models or convertibles. The firewall brace there was discussed a couple of weeks ago but I don't recall the answer.

Or any car ordered with 20" rims. ;)

Damn, you guys are fast :eyebulge: Thanks for the info :hail:, I just know that the proper strut tower brace setup should be from tower to tower and tower to firewall. I thought that I was getting short changed by not getting that brace, I guess I should have gotten a GT with 20" rims! Oh well, looks like I will need to add that part to my list.

Thought that was the K-brace mentioned in the performance pack list of parts.

Hmmmm..... Wondering how hard that brace would be to install?

Looks like the rear mounting bolts need to go up and under the cowl? Can it be installed with the engine in place?

89Trooper, how was the install of that brace?
Very easy!!

There are a few clips holding in the battery cover.

Then there are four bolts and some more clips holding on the plastic "brace". Two of these are very easy to access. To get to the other two, I took out the clips holding down the cowl, and then you can lift the cowl up to access the other two bolts. All four of the nuts for these bolts are welded in place.

Then you take off the two nuts on the passenger side, take off the positive battery cable, and the brace comes right off.

That's as far as I am right now since I still have to paint the new full brace. But I expect it to slip right back into place.

Then I'll lay the Strut Tower Brace in Place and install the four nuts (I had to buy two more of those from the dealer since there were none of the driver's side).

I'll take more pics when I'm done.
