I looked at a lot of the door rattle threads but haven't found what sounds like my problem. If I have the drivers door glass down, and I shut the door, there is a rattle, somewhere close to the fromt of the door by the mirror. It isn't the mirror itself and it seems like it might be the window moving around too much, but before I tear into the door, I wanted to see if anybody else had this?

I tried to hold the window with my finger when I closed the door, but I have fat fingers and couldn't jam them in far enough.

Any thoughts?
Thanks

Get a piece of cardboard and try using that as your “isolation wedge” between glass and door cavity.

Does your Mustang have the optional “my color” lighting with the ambient lights in the door cup handle latch area? This would be the inner area of the cup where the door lock and optional seat buttons are located.

If so, have you taken notice to see if the driver’s door is still illuminated at night (if you have ambient lighting on)?

The reason I ask is on my prior 2016, it had to be in for warranty 2x because the LED assembly in the driver door cup kept falling backward into the door cavity. I only knew when it happened when the ambient lighting was not illuminated at night on that side. If yours has come loose and fallen inward into the door cavity, it’s in that forward area of the door.

Thank you, I will give the cardboard a try, great idea. I haven't had the mustang long enough to notice the LEDs actually (Bought at end of Aug), but it is a base GT model with only the PP option, so I have a feeling it is not there.

At night, if you have ambient lighting, the interior door latches, foot wells and cup holders will be illuminated IF the feature is turned on within the dash menu. If you have the My Color, you can also change the color of that illumination. During the daylight, you should be able to feel the hole where the LED would be located in that interior door latch area. So where you go to grab the latch to open the door, in the upper right corner in that door cup, feel for a small circular hole.... if you don’t feel a bulb assembly, then it fell into the door.

The only other known rattles for the doors:
1) Loose harnesses behind door card
2) metal clips that have come loose
3) power window cabling
4) lower door speaker

Just got back in from some troubleshooting. It's not the window but the interior plastic part that kind of curves up over the top of the metal door and then down a bit on the inside. Hart to describe, but basically the top of the plastic interior door panel. If I hold it close when I close the door, no rattle. If I don't hold it and watch the top of the panel, it moves back in forth as it rattles. Seems like a clip in the door card isn't tight enough or something.

I think #2 is the answer. Going to watch some youtube videos of removing the door, so I can see the clips (Withoug taking my door panel yet LOL).

Again, thanks for the help!

Just got back from taking the door panel off. Although this is a new car to me, I can tell someone's been in there before. Anyways, there is a 10mm nut that appears to have something to do with holding the side mirror on. It kind of sandwiches the washer and the inside metal door panel. The nut was literally loose, I could hand-tighten it. I could see some blue lock-tite, but not near where it should be. I backed off the bolt quite a bit, dripped on some new blue locktite, and torqued that bugger down. No rattles. Thanks again for your help!
