For those that do their own service.

1. Do you purchase the recommended Motorcraft oil and filter?
2. Do you keep any special documentation of date, mileage and receipts of parts for warranty purposes.
3. Anyone have any issues with warranty because you were performing your own work?

I purchased Ford extended warranty and would like to do my own service I just don't want to take a chance voiding the warranty that I paid for.

Thanks

1. Yes I use Motorcraft oil and filter (usually Rockauto has the best prices)
2. I print a PDF of the oil/filter invoice email and then I take a photo of the mileage on the car the day I do the oil change.
3. No experience with this but on past cars it was never an issue. Extended warranties often have their own stipulations though so you need to read the fine print.

All very good questions. They’re the same ones I asked other members, and my local dealership when I started down this road.

1: Yes. Other oils are just as good or possibly better, but I didn’t want to give the warranty department a reason to deny my claim should the engine tank after 30,000 track miles :) Like many others, I buy my oil and filters from rock auto, which usually has pretty good deals.

2: I keep a small folio in the spare tire area under the trunk mat that holds all of my receipts, as well as a small notebook where I log all of my maintenance. I write the type of service, date, and mileage (which is what you need to document should a warranty claim arise.) As extra steps, I’ll write the date that the oil was used on the receipt, and I’ll take pictures of the odometer and the service being performed (ie oil flowing out of the oil pan.) I realize this step is unnecessary, but since it’s a track car, again, I don’t want to give Ford any reason to deny my claim.

3: Not yet.

1. Yes - Only MC oil and MC filter
2. Yes - 3-hole punched purchase receipts and file in GT350R binder
3. 3 years and zero warranty visits needed

I will probably be buying the Ford ESP in Sept.

Yes to doing own service, no to Ford blessed consumables: Castrol & WIX .

Will be singing up for the ESP when new car warranty expires. Simply because of the complexity of todays car.
