Does your shifter vibrate?

Whenever I’m beating on the car, and go to shift a bit before redline, the shifter vibrates a lot. Is this normal, or is something loose?

Can't say that I recall any crazy vibrations while going WOT.

I would not consider vibrations of any kind normal.

While you feel it in the shifter, the energy could be driven from almost anywhere.

These vibrations, are they occurring in the shifter only?

Do you also feel it in the steering wheel?

Can you feel the vibrations in the seat you're sitting in?

Are they related to engine RPM only?

Is speed a factor? Do the vibrations occur at a given, rolling speed?

When doing any pull and shifting at redline (6-7k rpm), I can visibly see the shifter vibrating, and really feel it when I grab it and shift. No vibrations in the wheel besides the normal feel of the road. No vibration in the seats.

Is the shifter supposed to be sturdy and planted the whole time?

Thanks for clarifying. It will help as others see the thread and chime in. The description you provide helps narrow the areas of interest.

I have a different car and transmission. FWIW, I've done several pulls to 6K and never once encountered anything negative.

You're getting these vibes at specific RPMs. It makes me want to narrow the focus to the engine and tans. If it was driveshaft-related, I'd think you'd feel it in a much broader range of driving.

Any chance a bracket or mount has broken loose? Have any components recently been changed or upgraded? Any recent maintenance?

Yes, it's perfectly normal. It's connected directly to the transmission, which is vibrating, shaking and moving, so it's not going to be "sturdy and planted the whole time".

When I wring it out on the first few gears (on the onramp, of course), I am not noticing anything that would call attention to the shift knob. I am bad and often rest my hand on the shifter, and it always vibrates some. Maybe I'd call it a "hum," I don't know - it's not like it ever shakes back and forth or anything. Ever. I can feel that the motor and transmission are doing their thing, but if it were visibly moving, I might have a little look-see at it. Point a GoPro at it and beat it up. I think we are all using words that mean slightly different things to us all.

Get an MGW Shifter - that'll take your shifter vibration to a whole new level:like:

I recently drove a manual Mach and I could feel some vibration in the shifter. Now this didn't vibrate my hand like the 2011 manual shifters did (absolutely awful) but you could feel some of the engine resonance through it.
