The operative word there is “track”.

The GT350 is a track biased car. The GT500 base doesn't come with a catch can. You have to order either the Handling Package or the Carbon Fibre Track Pack for a factory installed catch can/oil separator

And no doubt the engineers felt like there was a good possibility these two models would see track time.

Using a catch can (J&L oil separator) since day one. Already emptied it after about 3.5K miles.

Yea direct injection sucks. Thankfully our 5.0L has port injection to clean off the oil and keep it running problem free for years.

Can`t wait to take my 5.0L out for a drive in 10 years with clean intake valves with no catch can installed.

Some things to consider:

1) Engineers and Manufacturer's don't always field what they know to be best. Sometimes they're constrained by costs and bean counters, sometimes they're constrained by regulations and laws.

2) I'm betting the EPA doesn't allow catch cans or separators because it relies on the user to remove the oil and presents another pollution point. Their solution? Just send it back through the motor to be burned off or catalyzed in the converter.

3) Rerouting crank case gases through the intake is NOT an optimal strategy and it doesn't matter if it's tracked or daily driven. Suspended lengthy hydrocarbons in the crankcase gases both create residue AND lower your effective octane rating (and knock resistance) to your air/fuel mixture.

Can Ford and engineers design around this and take it into account? Surely.

Do you NEED a catch can? You could survive without it. Is it BETTER to have one. Undeniably.

Do you NEED strakes/diffuser on the rear of the car? Nope. Does it help clean up the air and increase fuel economy and increase rear downforce? Yep. Tested a zillion times both in wind tunnels and real world economy tests. Why didn't Ford install strakes? Cost. Maintenance/Repair and potential warranty claims.

OEM engineers are perfect and they're not God. Sometimes they field the best car they can with the limitations that are place upon them. From regulations, to union contracts and business contracts with suppliers (existing) to just plain cost of production.

It's spurious to say that because they do some or most things correctly that everything is perfect or any modification is a rejection of other things that are great and positive. Every product can be improved.

As far as a stock GT is concerned, when driven on the street as intended that’s exactly what it means. Or alternatively perhaps you think the 99.99% of these cars that do not have one are teetering on the edge of engine explosion?
