I've always been a big believer in catch cans. but for anyone thats just not sure. I took these pics of my valves today. My car has no catch can and only 7,000 miles

While I am a firm believer of catch cans (and run one myself), that right there seems a bit excessive especially for the mileage.

There shouldn't be that much stuff caked on your valves simply because they get washed off by the fuel injector. Seeing sludge build up in the manifold is perfectly normal without a catch can as there is nothing cleaning the inside of it, but on the valves it doesn't seem right. Either you have some other oil seepage issue, or you're running some really really poor gas. I don't think a catch can would have saved you much in this example.

Looks like pump gas was run mainly through that motor. But, I see e85 on ur mod list?

I’m at 2500 miles and after seeing this will probably just pop some breathers on. A little crankcase ventilation on high rpm motor never hurts.

I would love to see the valves on a catch can 18 motor...?

I only run e85. prior to e85 it was chevron or shell. The only source of this oil is from the pcv valve
As soon as I get ford to put a new motor in it I will be investing in a catch can

If you're tuned, use a catch can. I've had one on since about 500 miles.

I just installed a Bob's catch can on my new short block. It works. Many people I respect said to go with Bob's.

I have the same one. Performance is great, it's extremely easy and quick to empty, and it's hard-mounted to the body rather than hanging there.

I am bewildered . Did Ford port inject the 302 for 2018 or not . Also there is supposed to be a redesigned baffle plate .

Wait . Start using an additive to your gasoline like Redline . Change that oil out . Your running catless and headers so your back pressures are increased . Check valves and CC . ....GOOD LUCK ..

No argument that catch cans work. What I'm curious about if it is an unwanted byproduct of the design or did Ford engineers take this into consideration and it actually has more benefit having it than not having it. Just seems like a stupid easy thing to fix if it was a problem which leads me to wonder what happens long term to engines that have catch cans vs those who don't and if there are any situations where having a catch can is a bad thing.

Problem solved. No oil will ever get in my intake track now. Both fit under intake cover perfectly. $30 bucks and 30 minutes. And no these will not spew oil all over my valve covers. Ran same setup on my 14 cobra jet. :).

My very first mod I installed once I picked up my car was a catch can with only the drive home being done without it. The 2018's having DI probably makes even more sense to have one, but I still run one on my 2017. First oil change I had quite a bit in it that I emptied out so I know it's working.

Do you "need" one? Arguable. Piece of mind is nice knowing that a product does what it is supposed to do and I'd rather have it in a can than assuming my engine is handling it.

Yeah I posted about in the warranty/tsb section. About half of my cylinders look like this
Although I am a fan of catch cans and breathers, the fact that your cylinders look like that is why you have so much excessive oil buildup on the valves. Your cylinders arent sealing properly so it's pushing more oil than usual through the PCV.
