Judging by the vids I've seen of S550's on the Autobahn, seems like 167mph is the top speed, at least on GT's. I had previously thought it was 155mph.

Whichever it is, what kind of distance is needed to get these cars up that fast? Once they are there, any mechanical/systemic problems with maintaining that speed or are they pretty much designed for it?

Thanks

It's 165 for the GT PP. You'll need a couple miles. It'll pull like a crazed beast through 5th and then the last 5-8 mph will take a while in the tall overdrive.

I may be mistaken, but I don't think that's the best surface to hit its top speed.

We...as in someone on the forum or we...as in me??

I'm specifically keeping mine OFF of salty roads so I won't be volunteering for that venture!!

But I can't be the first one to inquire about this can I?

My performance pack tops out at 151 mph. I was told the Torsen diff is the problem but since I don't usually cruise above 100 so it's not an issue.

Before it was torn down I could hit 151 on the Scott Street elevated which was 1.58 miles. Visibility was good, and it got me to top speed with some good distance to brake slow back down.

Hmm, so the Torsen makes it 14mph slower? I'd figure with a name like Performance Package, all aspects would improve performance...not hinder it.

Official hp is listed at 435 and 400 to the wheels and I've yet to see a dyno test that reflects that.

So I think it's reasonable to assume he's reporting truthfully. Or are there a ton of people that have shown it is 165mph with the PP?

Thanks

I am curious as to why they would say the PP would have a higher top speed than the non-PP when the non-PP gearing is more favorable towards a higher top speed.

I saw 151 mph and elevated the concern to racing forum and they came back with response "lower gearing, quicker acceleration, l lower top speed. Higher rear gear slower acceleration, higher top speed.

I have a dash cam vid of it but it's only 6 months old so I can't post it since it's within the prosecution window. I'll have to wait another 6 months.

Official hp is listed at the crank, which is why you haven't seen a dyno test reflecting that since those things measure power at the wheels.

The performance pack has different gearing, which will limit top end speed. You have to shift into OD earlier thus it won't top out as far. And top speed is pretty pointless in these cars, and the "performance pack" has other perks besides said top speed which make it perform better than a car without.

I know there was the 1/2 mile thread where the guy with 750whp topped out at 160MPH in 5th so 150-155mph sounds about right for a stock/bolt on PP.

On my C6 Corvette the top out was in 5th not 6th. I figured it was the same for the Ford since 6 is an economy gear.

I know the final drive on the PP is 3.73, can six carry past 151? RPMs in 5th still look good at 151?
