Greetings. I have a 2019 GT and I enabled 3 small gauges in the center of the dash. The voltmeter is just flaky. It goes up like a vacuum gauge when I back off on the throttle. The oil gauge, though, is always at around 22 lbs whether idling, driving, cold or hot. I'm getting the impression that it's simply a pressure indicator like a red light would be. Is that the way it's supposed to work? Not a PP1 or 2 car.

It appears to be an idiot guage on mine. Maybe on the pp packages it really shows actual oil presdure, but this one seems to only show the presence of oil pressure just like the light, hence the term idiot guage.

Thanks for confirming this. I'll substitute another gauge, that is a real gauge, for the oil pressure.

Have you tried looking under heavier throttle? Mine will spike up to a higher pressure. Generally around 30 at cold start, and the same 22 once warm. Regular cruising doesn’t really nudge it, try looking once over 3500 rpm or so.

Personally I run that area without any gauges selected, giving me a blank option when desired. Otherwise, I keep it on the view with cylinder head temp to know when it’s safe to open it up in the mornings.

Your description shows it's really just an idiot light. The real pressure gauge shows 60+ from cold start, to around 22 when warm and idling, with wide ranging under load.

It freaked me out at first to see the huge PSI swings. And that's why manufacturers don't normally put them in cars, it freaks the ignorant out.

My point to the OP was not to discount this gauge or believe it to be static. You’ve got me on the coldstart pressure, poor memory on my part.

When you say real pressure gauge, are you referring to one other than the digital gauge in the dash? Not having the PP, I don’t recall if that’s one of the physical gauges you get in place of the center vent.

Yep. PP1. There's a real OP gauge in the center of the dash.

When I started to pay attention to the OP gauge, it was quite eye-opening. Learned that just because the coolant temps are good, that doesn't mean the oil is warmed up and flowing yet.

Yes, I’ve seen that mentioned before. Definitely something I pay attention to during winter more so than summer, especially after realizing it can take half my commute to stabilize. And if memory serves, we don’t have a true oil temperature on these cars; it’s estimated. Making the pressure gauge the best alternative data point, at least for daily driving. Tracking would obviously be a different scenario.

Yes, the oil pressure gauge (real gauge) on my 1966 Charger shows 55 lbs cold and running hot, at speed, while hot idle is around 25. So, either the the digital center mini gauge is a glorified idiot light or the 5.0 oiling system is a low pressure system. I had a 2004 Ford Ranger that had a oil pressure "gauge" which was also a glorified idiot light so this one doesn't surprise me. I just wanted to check with everyone to be sure that this engine wasn't having a pressure problem.

The oil pressure gauge in my digital dash (2018 model) absolutely fluctuates depending upon RPM and throttle opening. Idle is around 20 but it goes up to around 50 at WOT and is somewhere in between when cruising at normal highway speeds.

On my pp1 car oil guage gets up in the 90s under hard acceleration.

Hmm, thanks for your reponse. So, either the 2019 version has been relegated to an idiot gauge or there IS something wrong. My guess: another cheapening move by Ford for 2019 to go along with the single horn. I will have the gauge checked, though.

Follow up: Stupid me! I'm so paranoid driving this car that I apparently only looked at the gauge at idle. Now, as was suggested, I quickly checked the gauge above cruising speed and, sure enough, the gauge goes up to 50 lbs. So, yes, the gauge does work!
Sorry for my mistaken conclusion about the gauge. This 2019 is my first new Mustang GT since 2002 and I'm going to be a LONG time in adjusting to and understanding this incredibly complex car.
Thanks to all who kindly replied!

Mine is functional. If I have gauges active, I usually look that the list of all 5. If I view the screen with the 3 gauges, I usually look at inlet temp, head temp, and vac/boost.
