Any old shite.
Gents, let me fill you in on a bit of a dilemma I have.
I work abroad on a monthly rotation, and its looking like my car will arrive (roughly) in the middle of my trip away.
My plan was always to take it straight from the dealer round the corner to the detailers to give it the full works and wrap the roof before I took the car home.
I had the idea that I could pay for the car and get the dealer to deliver it to the detailers for me when I'm at work, so it is ready waiting for when I get home so I can enjoy the full month playing with it.
I have spoken to the detailer and he said they have done this before with a Focus RS with no issues, and he would be happy to give the car a good look over and advise of any issues immediately. However I realise this is no use really if it's not done in the showroom and prior to payment.
So, what would you do?
Wait, go and look at the car, pay if it is ok then drive it the 20mtrs round the corner and have to leave it there (suffer) for a week before you can go back to collect it.
Or take the chance that everything is ok so it's all shiny just waiting for you when you skip off the plane?
I suppose if there were any issues I could just drive it straight back into the dealer but then the detailer could potentially be accused of causing damage if their was any.

Pay on the premise that if anything is wrong you can get it changed, there's warranty for all that, your detailer will pull out your paint issues etc. as for car issues, warranty ;)!

Or have the car video'd before pickup? Get a family member or friend to look at it? Mustang friend up in scotland if they're willing to?

Don't put off the pickup of it :).

Yep, if there is anything and the detailer lets me know right away so I can deal with it immediately I'm sure it would be ok.
It will be 1hr+ from me so it's a bit of an ask for a friend to go and check it.
Anyway most of them would probably look at the wrong car.

Are you M&D Perth/Spotless Detailing?
If so, i'd have no fear of them not noticing any major paint issues within 60 seconds of seeing it.

If the detailed can't go, then yes wait. Don't pay for anything unless you or someone trained has looked at it. Wouldn't trust a friend or family member either. A week longer for pick up is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Yes it annoying but you have the rest of your ownership to enjoy.

Pay the detailer one hour extra and arm him with Manders list of what to check. SO long as anything is noted before it leaves the dealers then you should be fine.

Unless you can see it, wait. They'll hold the car (especially if you owe money :p ) and you can deal with it on your return. An extra couple of days won't hurt (much).

At least get the dealer to send pictures of the car, so you can check that the right specification has turned up . . .

I had full pics sent to me from dealer pre PDI and post PDI. I then had my roof and mirrors wrapped at the dealers plus they put my shorter plate on the front. I then inspected and collected in one go. I purchased from London and live in Wiltshire. Can your man not do it at the dealers? Just a thought. Have a look at my link below to wet your appetite, same colour and I assume same work as your having done?

Cheers

I think, unless you have a very good relationship with the detailer, its asking a bit much for him to carry out a delivery inspection. What would happen if he missed something? I don't think he'd want the responsibility.

Personally, for the sake of a week, I'd inspect the car first yourself and then get it detailed :)
