I hopefully am taking delivery of my Oxford white EcoBoost next week (currently in transit). I see where many members have chosen to not have the dealer to the pre delivery prep. Other than the possible improper wash/wax techniques, what are the other reasons for doing this? Anyone had problems with dealer not honoring request? Thanks in advance.

Some people probably didn't want front plates drilled into the bumper also.

Typing in other fonts is fun! Weeeeee...

Some people who work at the dealers are not as careful as you might want them to be with your vehicle . While they prepped my vehicle I closely watched them and went over the vehicle serveral times so I didn't have any suprises when I got home. If you wish to not have your vehicle prepped, tell your sales guy I'm 99 percent sure he/she wouldn't have a problem with it.

I make it very clear I do not want a front license plate on it if it's not there.

I just let them know to leave off any dealership graphics and to not install the front plate.

They detailed the car and lubricated the tire sidewalls.

I could see how someone might want to not have the dealership gorillas work the paint, but I think its easier to find defects (if there are any) on an absolutely clean car.

You are paying for this, and it makes it easier to point out the faults, if any. I also take photos, with a date stamp to show the car as delivered, in case anything pops up after I get home. I have never had a problem with the service guys. Most of them are just like us. My current EB was immaculate when delivered. They took a lot of time and cleaned everything. Not a scratch or mark on the paint. Just depends on the dealer.

They checked my muffler bearings and blinker fluid!

Never have the dealership detail your new car.
Respectfully request that the vehicle be presented to you in "as delivered" condition with all of the plastic, foam and window stickers intact and undisturbed.
I have never had a problem with a salesperson/dealer who was unwilling to accommodate my request to decline a new car detail and to not apply the dealer decal.

Carefully wash yourself (2 bucket method) and document with photographs any paint chips, scratches or blemishes that you discover.
If there are any paint issues, return to the dealer for followup/resolution.
With all of that being said, if the car has serious paint flaws or any poorly aligned body panels/unacceptable gaps/rear bumper fitment/rear window fitment, etc. - DO NOT ACCEPT THE CAR until the issues are resolved.
If your concerns cannot or will not be addressed to your satisfaction, have the dealer order you another car.

unless you are going to 2 bucket your car on the lot, you are stupid for not going over the car before it leaves. You drive the car off the lot without inspecting it before hand and they will deny you any claim on chips, scratches etc. My advice would be to ask them to rinse the car off completely but not wash it and then go over it with a fine tooth comb, taking pictures as needed. You have a lot more power getting paint defects fixed if the car has not left the lot.

Great advice. I'd also recommend a test drive at freeway speed, get her up to 70 (to check for the mysterious driveline vibration that has afflicted some of the cars on here...). I did it on mine...5.1 miles on the odometer when the dealer got it, and I put another 7 on it test driving it before acceptance :)

Let me get this straight.....YOU take the car off the lot as received and proceed to wash it and discover a small scratch on the body and expect the dealer to "replace it"? Same goes for any body panel misalignment issues.
You had better address them prior to driving it off the lot. GFL!

Forgive me everyone. I wasn't clear.
Of course, inspect the car at the dealer for serious paint defects/panel fitment etc as described and do not accept the car at that time. Request another car.
If all is good, wash the car at home and followup the dealer as needed. They will honor anything you may find.
Don't get the bum's rush at the dealer.
Thanks - I'm done.
