hey,

I posted a few times and thanksmfor all the help.

If my salesman found a car with the options i want but it 200miles away can the flatbed it back?

He said they will send a guy to drive it back- no flat beds. Not sure if i feel comfortable with that..lots of young guys working there. Lol

Could i make a request to send it by flatbed?

yeah, they just send a porter. So your first 200 miles will be at the mercy of minimum wage.

It would cost $300 or so to send a flat bed that far.

Porters are too busy getting yelled at by service managers. Generally dealers have a fleet of "retired" folks to gently drive the car back. If you dont mind them breaking it in, it is not a big deal. Otherwise contact the dealer that has it and work a deal directly.

Flatbed isnt worth it imo.

Yeah, I do inventory for Toyota and my biggest complaint with the company I use for dealer trades is that they are all really old and retired (super great people though) and it takes them FOREVER to go get a car and being it back to the dealership. lol. As long as you get those guys and not one of the porters then you should be in good shape. But at my dealership, as mentioned above, porters are WAY to busy to go pick up a car, if anything my guys would send the salesperson or hire the driver company I use.

I’m sure you can pay a towing company to flatbed it back home for you, soon2be. You should speak with the sales manager or the GM to see if they have a company they deal with. That may help with cost.

Unless I knew exactly who was going to pick it up, flatbed doesn't sound like a bad idea.

For a new car, I would flatbed it. I don't want no grandpa touching my new car, what if he granny shifts and double clutches or forgets to use the clutch period, then your clutch will already be worn before you got to drive it.

Here is a better solution. Take the greyhound bus to your destination for like $30-40 and drive it home yourself. A lot cheaper than flatbed, and safer than letting someone else drive it.

I cant imagine not knowing someone that would drive me to the dealership. Taking a greyhound would take forever and just be depressing

You never know who's reading these threads.
I happen to be a "Grandpa" who is retired and drives for 3 local dealerships. They know to send me if there is a manual trans to be picked up. I just returned from a transporting a Subaru WRX STI Launch Edition from Illinois Minnesota. I respect the fact that I am driving someone else's vehicle and not to do anything that I wouldn't do to my own vehicle which includes obeying all traffic rules and speed limits. I also happen to be waiting for MY OWN EB Mustang (Premium-PP-Guard).

I guess what I'm saying is not all of us "old guys" are helpless when it comes to driving performance cars......

I fully respect you and respect what you do, but the actual point I was trying to make was having someone else drive the car before you. When my car was delivered to the dealership, it didnt arrive exactly at the dealership but an overflow lot about 10kms away. I demanded that only I be able to drive it back to the dealership. After driving it, and inspecting everything I let them do the PDI.

You do realize that there are several people that drive your car before you don't you? I hate to tell you this but there is a person that drives the car off the line to the code machine, then to prep. There is another that drives from prep to the holding lot. Another that drives from the holding lot out the plant gate to the shipping lot, another..... You get the point. Some of them even go off on evaluation drives!

Now granted, 200 miles is a ways to go for a delivery, but in 2 years and 30,000 miles will it really matter?

We are not talking about the people who test the cars from the factory. We are talking about porters who drive the car from one location to another. My car arrived with 6 kms on the dash. A porter will put down at least 100kms or more, in this case 200 miles. Thats a lot of early break in driving. The whole point, if I ordered a new car, I would want to be the first person to “really” drive the car.

I understand that. However, it becomes a conflict of wants; the only car you can have what you want on it is at XXX or order it and wait. The other option is to take one closer with something on it you don't want or it doesn't have what you do want. That is all I am trying to say.

We did a search for a car when I ordered mine and there were NONE that were equipped like mine with a manual trans. So it was either take an auto, order one, or expand the search to 250 miles. I ordered one.

I'm happy for you that your dealership allowed you to do that and I respect that your car means that much to you. I don't know how old you are but it's nice to see that much enthusiasm for ANYTHING let alone a car! I remember when I got my R32, I drove it from the rail yard to the dealership so I know what your feeling. Whether you demanded it or not, some dealerships would not allow that to happen due to insurance purposes so you're pretty fortunate. I'm 65 and I know of another guy on this forum (flyboy) who is 66 and the 1st thing he's gonna do after he takes delivery of his GT is have a Whipple installed. I guess he and I just have a thing for speed that never went away. So, I don't mind being called "grandpa" because it's true and I know "flyboy" doesn't either but I'm really not fond of stereotyping......I guess for some of us the older we get the touchier we become. :amen:

Lets move on :)

hey,

thanks for the help. I asked, they said they have a driver for those things and"it will not be a big deal"

They really maneuvered around the idea about flatbed.

BTW-I sent you a PM with VIN's.

Thanks
