Does anyone know if Ford is developing a dual-clutch (DCT) transmission for either the GT or the GT 350?

I don't mind rowing gears but after having DCT in my last few cars the manual transmission just seems a little like yesterday's technology.

Having DCT would really make Mustangs a BMW killer. I was wondering the same thing you are, although the MT will always have a special place in our hearts.

I would like a DCT option in the SVT cars for the sake of pure performance. But calling a manual dated technology is just silly. The experience it adds is worth far beyond the tenth or two of a second to 60 it may lose. Hence the reason many people still opt to go back to manual cars after having driven/owned DCTs.

I've driven my dad's car that has a DCT. So disappointing and boring compared to a true manual transmission.

Uh, what? Pretty sure the manual is dated technology. It doesn't take anything away from it though. As far as people going from DCT back to manuals, I don't know what to say? I've never heard that before? Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, just that I haven't heard that it is prevalent.

Try going over to the BMW forums. plenty of people that get bored with the DCT/autos and want a manual for more involvement instead of just being along for the ride. Calling it dated implies its obsolete, which it isn't. Auto vs manual is a choice of personal preference more than anything.

I find them fine for a daily driver, but for a fun car anything other than a manual quickly becomes boring.

Maybe one day, not any time soon. They are already doing away with it in the focus and fiesta because they are having so many issues.

I wasn't implying that it was obsolete, but it is dated. Just like the SRA that is still being used in the mustang, dated, but not quite obsolete. My crystal ball says manual transmissions will no longer be available within 20 years.

Thanks for the info on the BMW forums.

Nope. The new transmission in the pipeline is the ten speed auto being developed jointly with GM.

I personally hate double clutch transmissions. Their driving characteristics are far worse than traditional automatics plus they are fragile as fock.
