Sigh.

Found more issues this morning:

Managed to chip off the paint on the doorsill, also managed to scratch the scuff plate, and the black trim piece under the door.

I have left a message with the service department at my dealer since they're closed for the weekend, and a message with the dealership general manager. I'll be calling them back again on Monday to make sure these issues are documented and taken care of as well.

This is unacceptable. Granted, I should've known the risks doing a big job like this, but the risks I knew would happen was new rattles (which I haven't had any so far) but nothing like all of this.

I just want it all fixed. The tech did do a excellent job though. Replacing the dash and no rattles, and managed to damage other areas of my car.

Hmm looks like it could possibly be wide spread or just isolated incidents .

Man that all really sucks to see. If my dash starts to bubble... I'll have a very difficult decision to make. I can't even fathom letting a dealer tech turn nuts and bolts in my car, let alone just digging way deep into it for days on end. That's the stuff nightmares are made of for any guy who is passionate about his car. I'm not used to owning cars that have to frequent a dealership... This is becoming quite scary!

I wanted to just live with it, but I thought about it spreading. I would hate for a very nice new car to have a bubbling dash after several thousand miles. Decided to take a gamble at the dealer. Did a good job putting it back and not making any new rattles, just managed to fuck up my car in the process.

If it happens to me, I believe my strategy will be to wait it out until just before warranty is up. By then I should be able to find a dealer who has "a guy" who has already done it 20 times and learned how to not damage everything by figuring it out the hard way on other peoples cars. Or I'll beg them to just order the part and let me do it myself and they can still take the labor pay from ford lol.

Well this is already costing my
dealer a few grand, so I think the tech will learn to do things the correct way from now on.

Damn, that's one costly bubble repair! What the hell was Ford thinking making the dash pads an integrated part of the whole dash assembly that cost $3,300 for just the part? :headbonk:

So the couple of guys here with the problem have the stitching on the dash pad (premium trim or 50th Annv package). I'm wondering if it's just the dash with the trim threading sewn into the pads?

Anyone here have bubbles on the regular dash pad without the stitching?

Yeah I can't understand why Ford did it like that.

After adding labor ($140 an hour) and the hours they spent on it, the repair would've costed close to $5k if it was out of pocket. Insane!

I wonder how the glue underneath will hold up over the years to extreme heat, like those who live in the south. If they'll tend to bubble after 4-5 years and you have to spend 4 grand to fix it on a 4 year old car???

Doesn't leather shrink after getting wet? What about trying to shrink it down...or even inject glue underneath?

Im not sure how that would work. It's stupid how Ford designed the dash. If you need to change the pads for a situation like mine you can't just disassemble a few trim pieces and have it done in a few hours, you have to disassemble the entire dash and change the skeleton.

If you live in a state like California, Texas or FL where it is extremely hot and sunny consider getting heat rejecting tints and possibly windshield sun shade to protect the front. Luckly for me, in Toronto, Canada, it will reach maximum 30ish with an average of 20ish (Celsius) all summer long, and usually 50% cloudy & 50% sun.

I'm thinking the bubble problem might only be on the 50 Year Annv and Premier Trim interiors where the dash is covered and stitched. Kind of glad I don't have the stitched dash pad.

Yeah I've been contemplating having a custom sunshade made for the front to protect the dash. My last car sat out in the hot HI sun for the last 3 years (summer can get into the 90's but with very high humidity so it feels hotter than it is) and the dash still looked really good.
