Again, I have no ties to this company, I am just a happy customer.

Will try to remember to take better photos today of my setup, but its basically completely invisible from the drivers seat, and you really have to look for it as the cam I chose is super slim.

I have had a Spy tec 118-C installed in my last 2 cars and will be reinstalling it again this weekend in my 6G. This thing works brilliantly. Has 1080p, bump/motion detection that causes it to record for 60 seconds even when the car is off, auto on-off, GPS w/speed, Micro SD card...Etc. It has never let me down.

Can you use the mirror tap if you want to use the parking mode feature found on some dashcams so or does one need hardware from the fuse box?

The mirror tap will only give you power while the vehicle is on (accessory power or full power)

If you want a parked automatic dashcam, you need a hardwired system (and most likely a battery level monitor so it shuts off if the battery voltage starts dropping)

Yeah, should be the same. As long as the mirror is powered you can tap the power source

Sorry if this was already answered but what is the actual purpose for the plug socket on the back of the mirror?

Also, would there be a way to fit a larger battery/power source inbetween the mirror and the camera/windshield so that the camera could be wired to the mirror but at the same time be powered when the car is parked?

In January of 2016 after a bunch of research a BlackVue DR650S seemed like the best choice. Is something else the go-to choice now?

Found a great price for 12v 5v converter

Invisicord has it at around $25.
AliExpress.com (this pic) and/or other Chinese shopping sites have it way cheaper. Although invisicord's comes with pins. I just added some solder to the end wires and formed my own cheapo pin.

What is with the reviews on these dash cams. I have surfed Amazon reading reviews for the Thinkware 770, Blackvue 750/650S, and a handful of others. It seems like nothing can handle Texas summer and if they crap out the CS from most all of the companies is worthless.

T-S550-X: the heat KILLS batteries. I bought a dashcam with a capacitor instead of a battery, and its survived two hot years so far.
