Afternoon,

I am considering dropping to a 4" on my 2018 D1X Stage 2 setup (currently running a 4.25") now that I have traction (makes a big difference). I believe I should have the fuel to support it with my two 267's based on the Injector Dynamics calculator. The calculator is calling for 508 l/h at 8k rpm and I think the dual 267's are rated at 600 lph. Obviously, I will need to log the car as I only have my current Lambda and STFT to use. Along with dropping the pulley size, I will be installing an ATI damper, Kinetic stud and PC crank support. My decision was expedited based on what happened to TGGT's car last week (sorry). The downside, I really don't have a functioning boost gauge as I run the ecoboost swap so I am not sure this fuel calculator is completely accurate (used 16psi). I believe TKM Conbread runs the same pulley. My car is a street car that is not driven much. Car has 5k miles, 1200 with boost. I understand the risk here and may be setting myself up for a new shortblock sooner rather than later. Anyway, do you believe a 4" is a bridge to far on the stock motor (I have a 7.65 crank pulley). My thought, I can get roughly the same blower rpm at 7350rpm on the 4" vs my current 4.25" at 7800rpm. Also, with the 4", the blower is close to max rated rpm at 61,161 rpm. Appreciate your input. Thank you.

For me personally. I will be staying with the 4.25 on my d1x setup with the new motor. I see a little over 13 psi at about 7700 ish rpm. That being said I think you could do the 4” and keep the motor alive. If it were me doing it I would have the car shift at 7400 - 7500. I believe that would put you around 15-16 psi. I think it will hold up. How long? That’s another question. Btw good decision on getting the crank support. I wish I had it to do over again, but it is what it is

I am sorry that happened to you. It’s a bummer but your car will be better going forward even if your pocket book is a bit lighter.
Yes, I agree, the 4” may be a bit aggressive but manageable if not beaten.

My 4” makes 18psi on Vp X85L and has around 14 degrees of timing in it.. with the new trans clutches and circled D 4c converter 3800-4000 it is a damn animal on the street.. if it hit it in 2nd around 6000 it will fry the tires 2-3 and i have to peddle it….. i will dyno it in the next few days and see what it making to the tires…. Hoping to run it on a good prep track on the 16th…

You should be at 950 ish if e85. That’s some serious power. I’m at 930 on 4.13 pulley.

My PC crank support arrived yesterday to compliment my ATI damper and Kinetic crank bolt. I will get all of it on the car soon. I did throw the 4" on yesterday and made a couple pulls for logs. My fuel looks fine which is great. I very much like the PC stage 2 setup so far. Coming from performance diesel trucks, this car is a very different experience. Thank you for the feedback.

taking the Fans off of the car will make doing the Crank support a Breeze….. having it just makes belt changing the belt a pain in the butt…

Well I went to install the stud crank support and the kinetic stud won’t go into the crank shaft further than an inch. I had access to another coyote crank and the stud goes all the way in without issue. I cleaned up the hole with a wire brush thinking possibly a machining issue to no avail. My buddy and I are going to borrow a dial indicator that we can possibly measure if the crank is bent potentially about to break. It is so strange as the car only has 5600 miles and the PC has been in for 1800. Maybe I am lucky and just caught my crank right before it is going to give. Any other ideas? Either way, will need a short block or a new crank if that is the case. Or, if it is a machining issue, I could possible turn .002 off the kinetic stud as an alternative in getting it in. I am spit balling here. Has anyone else ran into this before?

@80FoxCoupe had to work his in. Mine went right in on a brand new crank. It should work if you follow what Walt did.

We have tried for a few hours. What did Walt do specifically?

Thank you. Mine, will not go past 1” even after a heavy cleaning. Threads are fine, just can’t get there. My crank may be bent just enough to cause the clearance issue.
