What temps are you guys getting? Im constantly between 205-220. When driving normal I'm usually between 205-215 but at a stop light it goes up to 220. Is this normal with this engine? I feel like it should be running closer to 200.

205-208° almost always. In Vegas, I could see higher temps.

I was running 215-218 ish here in the Florida heat with my TVS blower.

I acquired the Reische 170 Stat from Lethal.....and I have not seen CHT go above 197 degrees since I installed it.

I HIGHLY recommend the Reische 170 stat.

Agree. Mine normally runs 190 to 193 degrees. I have the same Reische stat.

Keep in mind guys. The cylinder head temp is always roughly 10 degrees higher than actual coolant temp.

Is the Reische stat easy to install with no mechanical experience lol?

Adding a cooler stat is all fine and well, but from my experience these cars like a little heat! Ive tested 100s of coyotes and every single time on the dyno the second pull in a series of back to back pulls will always yield more hp. When I am racing my car, i let it idle for at least 5 minutes before it goes on the track, it will not be beat on until the cylinder head temps are at least 190.

Do you have a PP? I've got the PP and see the exact same heat you do. Granted I'm in Houston, but even on a cooler morning, I can see 205 ish. I see 220 regularly on my way home in Traffic.

Some of the posts above indicate this is fine, and I posted about my levels in our FB group and the guys assured me it's fine. However it would be nice to know if this 170 thermostat thing is beneficial, I'd like to learn more. Research starting now:headbang:

The thermostat housing is on the drivers side in the top rad hose. it is only three bolts, the hardest part is ensuring you have the coolant burped correctly. Is your car tuned? If so have your tuner turn the fans on a little earlier.

I am not tuned yet. I do live in Vegas so it's still 100 during the day. But this morning going to work, the sun was not out and it was only 75-80. The car still hovered around 217 after about 15 min of driving. Granted, i don't drive like grandpa but I certainly don't pound on it either. A couple wot pulls here and there. What is the max temp these engines can safley handle?

Very similar situation here. Would love to know as well, as I didn't know you had to tune after the 170 thermostat.:ford:

Keep in mind the head temps are 10 degrees higher than actual coolant temps. these cars will boil over at around 240 coolant temp. I think you are fine to be honest, the factory fan set up lets them get real hot to try and burn any unburnt fuel, its an emission thing.

You dont have to tune for a stat but it makes sense to, you want the fans turning on when the stat opens to cool the fluid running through the rad. Remember the fluid does not run through the rad until the stat opens. Personally I feel a 170 stat is to cool, these cars like heat, they need heat, they run stronger and more efficient with the right amount of heat.

Total novice question, but this whole process involves what? The temp showing as cylinder temp is really the coolant temp, and is showing as 10 degrees higher than it really is?

Also the fan running to keep it cool, does that impact anything such as MPG, performance etc. In other words, is it more efficient of a car, with the lower thermostat? Sorry, just trying to wrap my head around the process.

That's interesting, so you think the temp begin 210-220 is fine, as this car runs better warm? I.E. you think the stock thermostat is more efficient?
