Hi guys first post here, had the car for about 2 months, the engine is a gen 2 '19 motor. but its a 2017. Just curious if anyone has some thoughts about head temps when the a/c isn't running. went on a drive to the store today and was looking at the gauges and noticed the temps seemed to be a bit higher than I'd usually see them at. when the a/c was off they were between 214-229 and i was parked at one point which is when they got close to 230. but driving it was mid 220's or a bit below.

Usually even with my a/c on or off I would observe them at the most running around 212. most the time its sub 210 and 198 at the low end. any thoughts?

coolant is fine, no noises with engine.

That's a bit warmer than I usually see, but not by much - mine are usually low 200 after a while of normal running. Never use AC.

Never use A/C? I want to live where you do. Muggy KC in the summer is just a killer, so mine is on a lot.

Thatā€™s a bit warmer than Iā€™ve ever seen on mine on any day. Check coolant. Check to ensure the fan is kicking on.

What was the outside temp when this happened.

Mine is a bit similar being in the 220 range. Sitting idle, of course the temperature rises. But, as the weather has gotten warmer, and if I'm doing a lot of high rpm driving, temps will increase some. But as soon as you move, temps come down.
Look at your temp gauge. That 230 reading is just past the halfway point. And the oil temp gauge on dashboard starts redlining at 300. So a cylinder head temp of 230 at idle on a warm day, doesn't seem extreme.
Remember, these engines were built for continuous high(7-8k) rpm driving on a track. What do you think the head temperatures are when doing that?

What NGK plugs?
Running one step colder. What does that mean.
What part of Arizona. Big difference between Phoenix and Flagstaff.
Sorry but just trying to learn something here. I live in the Central Valley in California where we see 100F+ most of the summer.....106 today and mine runs a little hot this time of year as well.

Running ā€œcolderā€ spark plugs reduces temps in the combustion chamber. Normally used when running boost or ethanol. Learned a few tips and tricks from cars I have built over the years. And Iā€™m in Phoenix, dead center. We get 116+ days. Today was 105 and the highest I saw mine was 205 even after a couple pulls. Also NGK #6510

That is a cruising speed by the way. It will hit 200 at a stoplight.
