is anyone running a custom installed radar or laser jammer setups? AL Priority, Escort Max CI etc. I've been contemplating installing the jammers but am having a hard time wrapping my head around the ascetics of the jammer unit placement. Some installs look better than others lol.

For reference here's a couple of mediocre (at least on the exterior portion) installs. I question the placement of the optical units on these... they should be in the upper grill and ideally flush with the honey comb. Per the product specs and folks over at RDF, the placement is all wrong on these setups. But you get the general idea and the issue on this particular car... has anyone done this? Do these cars belong to someone here?

RDF will be your better bet for advise on jammer placement.

That being said you do not want the heads recessed and flush with the grille. You want them in the front with a clear view in front, nothing around the sides of them which would block them from an off-axis shot. You will want 3 front heads on our cars as well. Make sure to install the ALP controller somewhere easy to access so you can JTK when hit.

I have a GT so dont shoot me for posting here lol, but the car's arent that different jammer placement wise. Here's some pics of where I located mine which tested extremely well. You can also see my old 9500ci receiver placed below the middle head as well. Let me know if you have any questions I've done several jammer installs and have done testing with my own laser guns.

Ever since I got a massive ticket from laser and having a radar detector in my car (mine wasn't hidden like you want) I've stopped using one and haven't had a ticket in 20+years. All a laser detector will tell you is the moment you've been had and since most cops use laser guns, the detectors are useless. When I drive "spirited" I pay complete attention to my surroundings, observe, drive the car. No texting, no BS. Otherwise I drive 8 mph over the speed limit all the time unless in a school zone. There has been a bit of luck involve on times when I was doing 140+ on a two lane road in the country but then that's why they call it luck. Cops hate radar detectors.

I think the part you're missing is jammer vs detector. It is legal in a lot of states to use a laser jammer. I've heard that is is legal since lasers are regulated by the FDA rather than the FCC. Radar jammers, however, are specifically called out as illegal under FCC DA 96-2040.

"The intentional use of radar jammers is considered "malicious interference" and is strictly prohibited by the
Communications Act of 1934, as amended, as well as by FCC Rules. Anyone using a radar jammer
risks such penalties as losing an FCC licenses, paying a fine, or facing criminal prosecution."

I've never used a laser jammer, but I think placement is critical - as referenced by those who have commented already.

Radar detector/jammer, doesn't make a difference to a cop. If you blow through a radar zone at what the cop clearly thinks is speeding, he will pull you over and if he detects any kind of device to circumvent the law, you will be in trouble. I don't really care what you do, I'm just giving my opinion and relating what happened to me. In my experience cops are not stupid and I have a huge respect for what they do every day as my wife and I have 53 years of combined experience in service to our nation in the military. I have two retired cops in my neighborhood and the stories they tell are priceless and great entertainment.

Well, your comment was that a laser detector wasn't useful, which is true. I was just adding that a laser jammer is useful and legal in most places.

Didn't intend to offend.

Radar detectors have saved my bacon so many times it's not even funny. The good quality ones from the last 10 years or so are incredible and will alert you a long time before you are in danger of a police officer actually getting a read on you. The R1 is a bargain and I own several for my cars and I have an Escort Max 360 in my Boss but honestly the R1 is 100% fine without the arrows.

The only time I have gotten tickets with them on is when the officer just merged onto the freeway behind me (weirdly, it's happened twice in less than a year - both times in my boring looking, badgeless white Trackhawk).

The first time the laser detector went off in my Valentine, it was a complete save. Driving my new C6 home to Texas, I was on the interstate in NY and a trooper in the median lased a minivan in the left lane. The warning was so loud that I lifted off and by the time he swung it over to me in the right lane I was maybe 5 over and he did not pursue. Now, that was unusual in that I was just in the correct place with the minivan left lane bandit to draw him off. But the first time I ever heard the laser warning it saved me.

I mean if you're doing 100+ on the freeway and you're the only one on the road, a radar detector is useless. The proper way of using a radar detector is to always make sure there's a few cars ahead of you, so when the cops check their speed, you'll be alerted and you have a chance to slow down. I use this in combination with user-aggregated traffic apps like Waze, along with being aware and alert.

This isn't true; please dont spread disinformation.

First - detectors for radar are quite good.. I've been using for nearly 20 years. I can get hits on Ka highway patrol radar sometimes miles away as he uses it on other folks. its an early warning system. Laser detectors, while less useful, still serve a purpose. My escort has detected laser used on other vehicles around me before. if pointed at you though, it does nothing but let you know you've been hit by it. Sometimes that hit indicator lets you know to stay off the throttle. I've started to pass people and been targeted, which made me reconsider my next actions. My license has been saved numerous times by these countermeasures.

Second -Jammers prevent you being locked on by laser and getting a speed reading. without a speed reading, they cannot ticket you. These aren't illegal. Cops can't write you a ticket for what they "think" you've been doing. This is still America.

Thanks or the info and pics! Yes, I'm on RDF too. I thought there was a better chance of finding something specific to my application here though:)

Could I see some close ups of your install (DM is fine)? What brand did you go with and are they working well for you?

Jammers are illegal in certain states.

I and most others are already aware of that. Thats not what he made a statement about though. Here's the quote again:

"Radar detector/jammer, doesn't make a difference to a cop. If you blow through a radar zone at what the cop clearly thinks is speeding, he will pull you over and if he detects any kind of device to circumvent the law, you will be in trouble."

That seems like absurdly blanket statement right out of a police state handbook. I'm glad I don't live in place where "what someone thinks I'm doing wrong" can be taken seriously without some quantifiable proof. Like say, a radar or laser lock report... And quite frankly, if they were illegal, I'd still run them.

Exactly. Thanks for posting.
