Recently purchased a Mach 1 with the handling package, which comes with 305/30-19 front and 315/30-19 rear Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Removed the wheels and tires from the car as soon as I got it home from the dealer, so they only have 10 miles on them. On Friday I took them to a local tire shop who I have been using for years to have the tires separated so I could sell them. Sunday another 6G member and I met to complete the sale. As he was inspecting them, he noticed this damage in the sidewall of one of the 305's, so obviously he could not buy that tire. On the way home I stopped at another shop that I have used before and asked if they thought this damage could be caused during tire removal and they said yes, if the "shovel" on the tire machine catches the sidewall wrong. From watching Youtube videos, it seems like it might also be possible if they are not careful with the amount of force they use to break the bead (e.g. they were rushing, which the shop that did it was definitely rushing to get them done Friday). The date code on the tire is late August, so they are only 2 months old. Taking the tire back to the shop this morning to see if they will own up to the mistake and either order a new tire or compensate me for the value of the tire. Hopefully they don't try to say that I did it (not sure how they could even think that since it had air when I dropped it off) or that the tire was defective so it's not their fault. I'm also wondering if the Cup 2 compound is somehow prone to this because it's softer.
