Cost for a paint job?

Anyone ever get their car a fresh paint job? Curious how much it cost.

On one hand, I'm tired of all the chips in the brittle factory paint and looking to maybe refresh the existing Magnetic Metallic nose to tail.

On the other hand, if I'm gonna paint it, why not get Race Red? Or maybe one of those hard to find stock colors, eg Antimatter Blue, Mischievous Purple, Twister Orange, etc?

Online search gives a range of $1k to $10k. Not looking to make my ride a showpiece, just want something that will look good and hold up better.

What's the collective experience?

Are we talking Maaco? Cause that is the only way you're doing a color change for $10k.

To do a color swap properly, and I mean properly not half assed, at a quality shop that isn't your cousins "I know a guy" deal. $20,000 plus. Maybe if you do all the R&R and roll in a shell that could be cheaper.

Not exactly sure on the cost, but repaint and color change are going to be vastly different prices, since the color change will include the engine bay, door jams, trunk under side and so on. Where as on refresh, those can be left alone if they are good, since those areas aren't out in the elements much.

I’d consider a wrap if you want to do a color change. To do a proper color change as others have mentioned , you’re looking at more than $10k. Not to mention you’ll get dinged if you ever decide to sell/trade as your new color wouldn’t align with the VIN/window sticker. If that’s a concern to you.

I ordered a 2019 GT that came with bad paint (missing under the clear on all the edges).

Ford initially wanted to have it repainted and I keep it.

In 2019 the quote came back for that at 15k.

True, although I’d have the shop doing the wrap fill in the chips first. Depending on the size of the chips, you’d have to look fairly hard for them after they’re filled in. Just an alternative to having the car resprayed.

If it is just nicks and chips you can have the car paint corrected and ceramic coated for 3k-5k and looking like new.

Depending on how bad the chips are, maybe you could just do a touch up or partial repaint at a body shop and then PPF.

But yes, as others said, if it's more about wanting a new color rather than just fixing busted paint, then a wrap is going to be your best bet.

My hood was full of paint chips when I got the car, I'm having it stripped and repainted now. (Just the hood)

A friend in the UK has a body shop, a repaint can cost what ever the owner wants to pay. If you want to pay £1k that will cover the cost of the materials and a couple of days prep, fine if you are moving the car on but for a keeper you need to dig deep. He has recently done a colour change on a Jaguar and that was close to £15k but it looked fabulous and you could use it as a mirror. There was nearly a week of polishing.

I would turn it in to a D/D and buy another car the color you want. 15 to 20 grand would go a long way into another car. You can never have to many Mustangs. Trade it in for a fresh ride. It just too expensive to paint a car and have a good job done. Once you have new paint all you will think about is getting door dings and rock chips and you will no longer enjoy just driving it. Or get a touch up and enjoy what you have. They don't stay perfect forever.

Vinyl wrap it. They make color ppf now too that's an option that people seem to like. Still very expensive unless you're wrapping it yourself but cheaper than paint it seems.

I have a paint guy and his catch phrase is, I hope we meet by accident. Greg is great except he wont paint full cars. He tells me to go to Maaco. I did last time for the first time and it had plenty of scratches, faded, and hail damage. I didnt realize it was that bad and they didnt volunteer enough information. I would have token it to greg if I would have been .
I got the level 4 paint job that is a urethane with clear cut mixed in. The base price is 1,900. Its around 250 to have extra body work done. The door jams are around 300. I personal dont have a show car and can care less about trunk and hood paint. My friend arnt real anil when I pop the hood I can care less what the dealership mechanic thinks as long as the car gets fixed. I hate to kinda be the loner at this sight. Just decided to tell you what the cheap option is. Craig Brown is right. Even though its not perfect I park away from other cars and get my steps in for the day.
Tucsonj if you dont want to get a car painted that cost kinda close to the value of you car the option isn't that bad.

I just had the hood quoted because of the paint blisters on the leading edge and that was $500.00, with zero guaranty. I am going to do it.
