Hi all,

So my 2020 Ecoboost HPP has been shifting rough since I got it about 8 months ago, mostly in low gears. It's felt worse lately and I've also had a couple violent "clunks" with lurches while letting off the gas. I figured I'd try a Forscan relearn clear before going to the dealer (who I suspect won't help because there are no codes).

My question is, what is the proper relearn procedure once the flash is clear? I've read both "just drive normally" and also seen the very specific procedure from the service guide here as well (accelerate with 15% throttle, repeat, etc). Do I need to follow the strict to get the proper shifting down? Or do it just driv

IMO drive it like you drive, let it learn your exact needs.

"driving" it to a specific pattern that you'll end up never using is not the best way to get it to shift properly. Everyone drives differently.

That’s exactly why it may need to be reset. Once that’s been done it will learn the OP’s needs.

Here ya go, page 1 and scroll down to Fact #3. The proper and complete procedure to do a 10R80 relearn is there.

I don't buy the whole adaptive learning thing. Like, I understand how it needs to learn the clutch packs, slip points, pressures, temps, etc. But I don't buy that its a good thing that it learns your driving style. For example, I change my driving style all the time based on traffic, weather, based on emotions, where I'm going and if its the weekend or not. I find it impossible to believe that it is smart enough to "learn" a driver. Maybe my car is a bad learner.

You are correct. Any adaptive learning is done for management, not the driver. 99% of the learning is done within a few hours as well.
