When I installed my Paxton kit and had to drain the system. I filled it up with half orange and half distilled. I would take water bottles and fill them up with half orange and half distilled water, mix them up, and then power them into the tank in batches to get as close to the 50/50 mix as I could.

Same spec as Dex-cool...I've topped off my own coolant recovery tank with Dex-cool and had no ill effects ;) Always used tap water for the H2O portion. You can buy pre-mixed Dex-cool and water at O'Reilly's if you don't want to worry about doing the mixing yourself.

Color means nothing, there are probably 3 different types of antifreeze that are orange. It's the chemical type that matters. There's OAT, HOAT and one or two more. Not sure which type ford uses, but stick with that, unless doing a complete flush, then you could probably get away with any of them. Also, never use tap water, only distilled, unless you want stuff growing in your cooling system.

What's the life on this orange stuff? I'm use to doing a flush every two years with the regular Prestone yellow. Just about to hit two years with my GT and I'm wondering about flush and fill.

I see that the coolant capacity is 13.6quarts on the 5.0,mine is full and stays full with 8 quarts, I drove around, head and coolant temperature is normal at 190 head 208f, and I squeezed the top and bottom radiator hose and seem like no air is trapped. Since I did the opg,I had the water pump removed and the radiator drained, would there be so much coolant still somewhere?

The Ford service manual says that less than 80% of the coolant is recoverable with the engine still in, so that will account for some of the difference. Also, you can buy the Ford recommended Motorcraft coolant on Amazon for a good price.

I bought a gallon of the concentrate yesterday at local ford dealer for $20. The CORRECT coolant. Don't listen to anyone saying use dexcool, or any water but distilled. Unless you don't plan on keeping your car very long.
