Your unmodded 2018 mustang will run just fine on 87 octane fuel, it just won't achieve full potential horsepower.

Thanks, I’ve gotten several reply’s that clarified things. I plan to use 93 octane containing 10% ethanol which will apparently give me good performance. The extra cost won’t be significant because of the limited annual mileage I will put on it. I don’t have my ‘19 Bullitt yet, but cars produced for NY as opposed to CA may have a different recommendation because your state regulations may be different. Our Governor has some old cars, including a ‘64 GTO so we will probably have good gas available to us for at least four more years since he just got re-elected... Bruce

Just so you know, there is no state specific owner's manual, and no different manufacturer's recommendation for cars with different emissions certifications. That said, I personally only use premium for best performance.

Bruce, the 5.0 engines run just fine on 87 octane for everyday use. That's all I run if we're on a road trip. Of course, the premium octane supposedly puts the engine at peak performance. So, run either you want. You'll be fine.

Thanks. With the limited seasonal driving I will be doing I’ll likely use 93 octane, but it’s nice knowing I have a choice. I too enjoyed the Jessie Stone movies with “Suitcase” Simpson. I wish they’d do some more... Bruce
