So I got a hold of a ‘19 GT air filter box and tube that my buddy had sitting around. I’ve been curious about the inner diameter tube size since the ‘19 doesn’t have the carbon trap/bracket/housing and honeycomb insert and the ‘22 does. Well I measured the inside diameter of the insert on my ‘22 and it measured 96.6mm and the ‘19 without it measured 98-99mm. Just like I suspected. The ‘22 definitely has some airflow restrictions in the form of carbon trap and its housing and the honeycomb insert. The honeycomb alone with the “thick” squares and smaller diameter should reduce the airflow. It may not be something gigantic but I bet is measurable on a cfm machine.

I just removed the hydrocarbon trap in the Mach 1. Have to wait until tomorrow to see if I notice a difference.

If you remove the hydrocarbon trap the tube needs to be put back in for the diameter of the tube for the sensor to measure. IF you don't the sensor is now not calibrated and possibly more fuel will be dumped.

Ooh, maybe that's why I think I'm hearing a little bit of backfire now and then.
Thanks.

Ford lowered the compression from 12 to 1 ,down to 11 to 1, that dumb trap is not giving you 10 horsepower, SMH

You don't have a typo on the Ford web page ,You don't have a typo on their web page, they would have changed it if it was wrong, SMH. .. the 22 guys are in Big Time denial with the horsepower drop, guys are a bunch of knuckleheads if you think the filter does anything for horsepower. .... whatever, all my s*** works.

I thought eariler in this thread it was proven that the comp ratio stayed at 12. Not sure how accurate the link is but this is from it.

Updated on 10/13/2021 at 3:15 p.m. ET: When asked what exactly was changed on the engine to meet these requirements, a Ford spokesperson clarified, “For 2022, the Mustang’s 5.0-liter V8 engine’s hydrocarbon traps were modified, with a new mass airflow sensor location and updated engine calibration.”

It looks like they changed it. Below is a copy of the 2021& 2022 engine specs. You will see, the HP loss of 10 but the compression is the same.

As you can see it’s from Ford, do I care about the 10 HP loss not really but in the Mach 1 the HC filter removal makes a difference as it is located in the intake tube behind the MAF.

More air in equals HP, a non restrictive paths will always perform better. No denial, I could care less what’s on paper. Welcome to the forum by the way.

That is clearly a outdated page you are showing, Ford markets the new 5.0 at 11:00 to 1 compression... it's on their current specifications page it's even in the Mustang brochures specifications, Mach 1 and GT have 11 to 1 for the 22 model year and that's straight from Ford... 22 Mustang guys are in total denial.

Bro, I went to the Ford Website minutes ago and screenshot the page. Again no denial, just trying to correct your statement with facts from Ford.
