Clutch options ?

I recently sold my Tech Pack trans to a guy who is putting a Coyote in an early Mustang fastback. When he went to the Ford dealer to order a GT350 clutch, the dealer refused to order it without a GT350 VIN. So he called me to order it for him. Before I do that, I was wondering if there might not be a better aftermarket option. Can’t believe that GT 350 clutches are unique.

They need the VIN number in order to get the correct part.

Hmmmmm. Maybe not so simple. The clutches I found are dual disc and meant to be used with the GT 350 flywheel which I assume is not compatible with the Coyote. Wondering if a clutch compatible with the 5.0 would work well. Will try calling FP and clutch manufacturer’s to see if there’s any reason that would not work.

I would say give Mcloud racing clutches a call. I know some people run these in their GT3500 and GT350's when they up the horsepower. I had one in my 11 Shelby, a RTX I believe. Felt like the stock clutch, and held up well with a lots of hard launches and trips to the track.

I wouldn't. Several have had issues with lock out and...

Actually the clutch, like the transmission IS unique to the 350 and is a twin disc dual mass setup.

I also was told third hand from a Ford engineer that messing with the balance changing the clutch from OE with the FPC balance/harmonics would not be advisable.

I could see where that may be an issue. I know there WERE odd transmission failures in the GT350R-C that could have been attributes of a race clutch and flywheel assembly being used in place of the stock unit. We will never have proof of that, unfortunately.

I know that McLeod has developed a clutch specifically for the GT350, about $1600-2000 depending on which version you get. Supposedly the entire stock clutch/flywheel assembly weighs 52 pounds, and they got it down to 42 pounds, reportedly to save weight while not removing too much to prevent increased NVH. How true it is, I have no idea - just passing along what I read when I looked into it.

Ah ok, I misread your post and didn't realize your pics were specifically of the McLeod.

The guy who bought my trans wants to mate it to a Coyote out of a 2003 F150. I would think a matching flywheel/clutch from, say, a Mustang GT would work. Anyone know ? Might the bellhousing create fit issues ?
