Hello all,
I have had intermittent shifting issues for a while now, although I've barely had time to drive the car more than 100 miles in about the last 18 months to 2 years due to time, schedule or weather. Well, my schedule has gotten better and we are getting into the nice weather and I want to iron out whatever this issue is. Sometimes it's hard to get into 1st and reverse, sometimes I get gear nibbles going into various gears, however, this isn't all the time. At at high rpm, I don't seem to have any issues, pretty much always good. Normal answer is that there is air in the line, but I don't think that's the case here. What has been done so far:
Calimer stage 2 mt82
Ford OEM slave cylinder. Bench bled.
Steeda ss braided clutch line
Lpx-HD clutch.
MGW X Spec shifter.
Did the 1000 clutch pedal pumps.
Vacuum bled the MC.
Pedals have been rewelded where they were cracking.
The only thing that I haven't replaced is the factory MC which is now 10-11 years old and has 72k miles on it.
I hadn't replaced it or thought to replace it because I haven't had the normal symptoms of a bad MC, pedal doesn't feel spongy, doesn't stay on the floor, engagement point doesn't seem to change, etc. The only thing is that sometimes I feel a "popping" or a hitch/step in the pedal upon release.
I've been doing some reading and it looks like when the seals start to fail, it can leave bits of the debri in the reservoir. Is this what that looks like to you guys? I've only ever seen black fluid in there when it was real nasty on other cars. It looks like that's what it could be, but when I look at the fluid on the q-tip, the fluid itself looks clean, just some residue in there. Is it just dirt or something else, or is this what it looks like when the seals start to fail? I'm thinking that maybe it's on its way out and it doesn't always develop enough pressure to work against the new PP fingers. Not an expert for sure, so hopefully you guys can help me out. Thanks!
