Hi, I'm planning on installing long tubes in the near future and came across one of ford performances advertisements for their upgraded clutch line: https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-7512-B

It says in the overview for the clutch line
  • Strongly recommended for vehicles equipped with headers!
Does anyone have any experience with the stock (plastic I believe) clutch line failing with long tubes installed?

Thanks.

Not that the stock line fails but rather allows excessive heat into the brake(clutch) hydraulic fluid which causes inconsistencies in clutch feel and engagement especially during hard driving. There are less expensive options for the clutch line.

I have an 18 manual with the transmission out of it right now. I was upgrading to a Mantic twin disc and flywheel and went ahead and grabbed the McLeod stainless clutch line. The stock line is molded plastic and heat shrouded and almost looks to be the same or larger inner diameter than the McLeod line. I won't know until I pull it off the car for sure but from underneath it looked that way. Steeda, McLeod, some others all make a kit for 11-17 and steeda labels their kit 11-18. The ends appear to be the same on the 18 as well, from what I see. I did it in my 15 GT PP and didn't regret it. It's probably not a bad idea on the 18 either - but I have to say this dual mass flywheel / dual disc clutch is really good stock on the 18's! Had I not added a blower I probably wouldn't touch anything unless it was screaming for help under there.

Did you notice any performance improvement on your '15 with the upgraded line?

We never had an issue on our stock line in the past with just headers, but when we went supercharged and added a Mcleod clutch, we usually just go ahead and add the braided line. Let us know if we can help here at Lethal Performance!

I do think it is a bit weird that these SS lines are straight screw-ins but the line coming out of the bellhousing has a 90 degree coupler that looks plastic ?

I had my clutch pedal drop and hang once on my first 2015 GT PP and I thought this would resolve it so I swapped after my Spec clutch was swapped. It never happened again after that - stock headers, but with a ProCharger. Turns out the symptom of the pedal was unrelated as this was typically a master/slave cylinder issue that had plagued some coyote cars so the line wasn't the fix. It *felt* firmer / more linear of a pressure on the pedal but that could have been completely in my head.

I just went ahead and put he McLeod line on my car since I got the flywheel bolts I needed and got the garage heater up and running (it's over 25* in the garage now which makes the work way more enjoyable.) It's a lot longer - I'll have to do some zip tie routing to make sure it doesn't end up contacting the engine or trans, as the factory molded hose steers clear of all that.

It just seemed like something I might regret NOT doing while I had the trans out - so - more of an emotional purchase and install I guess than a need. Looks nice. Matches my PTFE fuel lines lol... other than that, I'll keep ya posted if I notice anything.
