Clutch issues with 14K on the odometer?

Purchased my car last December just shy of 12K. I do not beat on her very much. Occasional hard acceleration perhaps a few times a week. What I have noticed lately is the car shuddering slightly when slowly releasing the clutch when moving the car from the driveway to the garage. Today when I got on it I could tell from the 1st to 2nd shift the sensation of the RPM raising but the car not pulling like it should like the clutch was slipping. Perhaps the previous owner sucked at driving a stick? The car was not beat on. Had original tires on it when purchased and is flawless.

Question is what should I do? Does taking it to the dealer make sense? Would they look and tell me the clutch is shot and cover the diagnosis under warranty? I don't mind footing the bill to replace the clutch but I'd rather do that with a better clutch at an independent shop.

Dealership is 99% not going to cover it... A clutch is a consumable and I've had a friend who tried very hard to replace a clutch on his first manual car after he burned it with no luck. I'm pretty sure the clutch going out at 14k is not normal, but since you're not the original owner, we'd have to assume that the previous owner either was new or abused it. I have 130k+ miles on my other manual car with no issues, so clutch can definitely last.

True I suppose they can confirm that it's the clutch most likely. However, what you're describing does sound like the clutch being the culprit. For clutch replacement, I don't have much expertise, but perhaps up to $1000 in labor plus parts?

And I'd be careful about selecting an upgraded clutch if you're not pushing more power. Those can be much more difficult, grabby, and not as nice to drive on the street. I've had a car with a racing clutch before and my leg was getting quite a work-out after a few minutes in traffic. As long as you know what you're getting since there are a lot of options.

Maybe on a cable operated clutch it's a workout but we have hydraulic tob, they are pretty close to the stock feel from what I've read. I'll find out for myself soon ish just got my mantic cerametalic clutch for my 19 in the other day

I highly recommend not going with an OEM unit again. These oem units are made in Turkey garbage. I am on my second with 42k. Also I would agree 100% going with an independent shop vs a dealership. They over charge and the work is shoddy atleast in my experience.

Go new TOB and pilot bearing to complete the entire setup. Cheap ins and its already torn apart. $135 / $14
