Clunking when depressing clutch pedal

First post here, been lurking for a couple weeks and haven't found anything on this topic (at least I think, so many clunk/clank/noise threads...).

Anyway, when traveling at a low speed (creeping), such as going through a parking garage, I get the same exact clanking/clunking noises when I depress the clutch. When I push the pedal down, it makes ~4 clunking sounds that sound like slack in the drivetrain hitting their mating parts (u-joints maybe?). Has anyone experienced this? I can make it less apparent when I feather the gas a little while pushing the clutch in, but it sounds pretty crappy for a $40k car...

Your rear axles have play in them causing this to happen when you take load off the drivetrain.

i hear the same thing when I depress the clutch in 1st gear at low speed when I'm trying to get into my narrow garage.

but is that harmful to the car?

I had the same issue going into my garage so what I learned to do is just let the clutch out slowly and not give it any gas. The will roll nice and slow and you won't get the drivetrain slack which causes the noise. I would pratice this on a street first so that way you can get use to it and not let the clutch out too fast going into your garage and running into your wall.

Mine does the same thing. I've learned to clutch the car a little differently and I'm sorry I can't explain How I do it. Anyways I was in the same boat thinking a 40k shouldn't do this so I took it into the shop, the mechanic explained it was just drivetrain slack and completely normal. Hope this helps.

Yea, I get the clunk in traffic, also have throwout bearing noise that I am not sure if it is normal or not.

I was hoping some better diff bushings were the solution, but maybe not from what I hear.

Low speed axle clunk here too when the clutch pedal goes in.

I have the same thing if i put the clutch in around 5-7mph. I figured it was drive train slack but it sure does sound ominous inside the cab.

I try to put it in nuetral now before I get below 10mph and just coast to a stop - When in traffic its a different story...dont want to slip the clutch but dont want to hear this slap every 5 feet.

Would be interested in seeing if you could better describe your process GTPONY.

Yeah, it really sounds bad when you have to keep slowing down for speed bumps

I started hearing this rear diff clunk after i installed Steeda solid rear diff bushings and stop the hop package. I'm pretty sure it's normal driveline noise being masked by the soft rubber bushings..
