There have been a million threads about the clunking sound that seems to come from the front underneath of the car
It is weird that there has never been a recall or a TBS
The bitter cold (in New England) seems to exaggerate the problem especially when just starting the car and then turning
Is this really something to ignore?

Where does the clunking come from? Is it the shifter and/or clutch?

I notice more body/interior creaks in the cold, but those quickly go away as I drive the car. I do hear clunks, when shifting and/or putting the clutch in...but that's at all temps not just in the winter.

Is it only when you are just getting into the car and turning the wheel? If so turn off your traction control. Sounds dumb but I could just be that. I had that issue with my car. I kept hearing clunking noises until i realized it was just the traction control applying the breaks. >.<

If this noise is happening when the car is being moved slowly with the steering wheel turned all the way (or nearly so) to one side or the other, then it's not a problem. The geometry of the front suspension is such that one of the tires will try to slide or scuff sideways a little. This tends to be more noticeable in colder weather, and, in my case, seems to be more prominent when backing up, such as turning around in the driveway. Nothing is loose or worn, and it only happens at sharp steering angles.........

UPDATE: I just replaced my P-Zero Pirellis with a set of Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 tires. The popping/scuffing at low temps with full steering input is gone. The Pirelli "summer" tires seemed to be the issue.......

Also have the P-Zero's on the stagger 19" wheels, and experiencing the same issues in cold weather.

I've ordered a set of Bridgestone POTENZA RE980 AS+ from Costco and should be installed in the next few days.

Hope to enjoy the same success.

Mine it is the tire slipping on the tarmac , almost like if you were in a 4x4 in 4x4 on the road, and turning. I think it is the tire turning into a hockey puck when cold, and skating/grab/skate/grab. with wheel turned when Leaving a parking spot.
