Anyone could be a "thug" ... doesn't matter what color they are. People get too worked up over words sometimes ... especially when they can mean many different things to many different people. People make up their own meanings for words, which makes all this BS even worse.

This isn't really the thread or forum to engage in this debate. So, the last thing I'll say is: Google "coded racial language thug". The beauty of code words is that people can use the defense that you just did. To the uninitiated what you said would sound logical. But, I know better. And while I appreciate the thought, I don't require links to definitions, I'm very well educated. I also understand the world that we live in. So, I don't expect to change anyone's concept of others. They have a right to say what they want, as do I.

Every person makes their own perception of the world on how they see it. Everyone lives in a different 'reality' ... so keep in mind that not everyone sees it the same way. So why even bring up a word that isn't locked into a specific meaning?

I don't care about 'code words' or what Google "says". People typically use words based on their formal meanings - not what other people make up in their own minds what the word might mean to them. People need to stop making things out of nothing and twisting shit up more that it needs to be ... that's the whole problem with society.

What if someone called those kids 'punks' or 'hoodlums' or 'mobsters' or 'hooligans' or 'goons'?

All those are synonyms for the word 'thug'. Seems kind of ridiculous that someone would get upset about words than can mean so many things to many different people, and has zero racial meaning except in the 'code' world. That's all BS meanings to words that are not the true meanings of the words. Society is going down a shit hole. Is there a 'code word' for that? ;)

Now back to the regular dash-cam discussions. :focus:

It seems ridiculous to you because you don't understand the implications of the words that you care nothing about. I'm not making this stuff up, there have been studies and articles written about this by scholars. But, like I said, this isn't the forum for this discussion. So, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I might call any delinquent kid - no matter what race they are - punks or thugs or hoodlums. All equal meanings to me and probably to most anybody.

I'm not concerned what certain "code words" mean to other people because they have twisted the meanings of those words to mean something else to them. Wish the world was different ... people need to let stuff go or it will never get better. So yeah, it is ridiculous (and sad) when you really think about it.

Agreed that this is a conversation for a different part of the forum. I would be more interested to know what you meant by the "Ted Cruz" comment. Are we going to go down the "All conservative/Republicans are racist" rabbit hole?

I personally don't care about people's political affiliation. I judge people on their character. But, since you asked, the comment I referenced is below. What does "they don't look like the type of people that would like him" mean? Let me guess, he wasn't referring to them being African-American either...

maybe its cuz they heard you listening to ted cruz on the radio. they don't look like the type of people that would like him.

And I'll also do another dashcam vid later today to get this thread back on track. So, I'd be happy to continue the other discussion, but PM me or something.

Got it, and I got myself there after thinking about it, my mistake. For the record, I thought "thugs/punks/something of the like" the first time I watched the video, and I did not take note of their ethnicity. Only after re-watching it after this conversation did I realize that I missed that.

Either way, they were representative of the general sentiment among young kids these days, in that I can do whatever feels good, is fun or whatever because I feel like it, other people's property be damned. Personally feel that we will never move on as a society until we ignore ethnicity and judge people by how they behave and treat others. I think there was a significant historical figure that said something to that effect... These kids (call them what you were) are despicable people for what they did to his car, hopefully they will learn before it becomes much worse and they end up as a news story.

Imagine if (through no mal intent) the driver backed into one of those kids. He would be defending himself to a parent that he wasn't seeking revenge for a pack of kids that like to see adults get angry over stupid stuff. It is not acceptable to harm another person. Shouldn't it also be unacceptable to harm another person's property?

As for politics, there does seem to be a swell of Trump supporters that want less "political correctness". So on the one hand I agree with "we need to be free to make off-the-cuff comments" without a sudden backlash of name-calling, while on the other hand I agree with "we need to let stuff go more" when someone's choice of words was not so politically correct.

Nah, I'm done with that series. But, perhaps I'll do one on why some people feel that it's not racist to call kids "thugs" just because they're African-American. If they were white, I can guarantee that isn't how they would have been described. And the "Ted Cruz" comment above tells you everything you need to know about that guy. It's 2016 people, will when you learn to see past the color of peoples skin?

I know...I know...I'm prepared for the storm that will follow.
Maybe if so many black people didnt act like thugs that word would not be a thing. Though I would not have used that word to describe any kid that age.

I am not a ted cruz supporter. In fact, I despise the guy. That being said, I would use the word 'thug' to describe any delinquent kid regardless of skin color.

kids are kids. They may or may not be polite and respect your property. Thugs have enough muscle, bad attitude and pack mentality that its prudent not to honk at them. Real thugs can easily cause you a bad day.
