I would definitely report it to Xpel. The whole point of an authorized dealer is to have people who know what they're doing and trained; not outsource it to Joe Schmoe.

I think any of us could've done a better looking job in our garage and probably less dirt under the file.

The gaps around the lights and vetns, ok that's one thing if it was hand cut. It looks a bit sloppy but no harm really. But not tucking the edges/corners and completely dirty under the film is inexcusable. That could damage the car with all that dirt grinding on the paint.

I would not let the shop off the hook regardless of who had their car done there. If they did outsource it, it is their name and reputation and should have never approved that for pickup

Nah, car will be perfect once it's polished and the stripes are replaced. Maybe it'll take off a bit of clearcoat, but that factory clearcoat needs to be leveled anyway. :)

if they used XPEL then I would call XPEL and report them for the worse XPEL installation performed by an installer..
It's not an XPEL film. In retrospect I should have gone to the XPEL-owned installer in town.

Sorry to hear the news man. That sucks. I'm taking it that it will not be fixed in time for Coffee and Cars? I'm taking mine to the dealer to install the splitter tomorrow, been trying to search anything and everything to make sure that it's properly on there when I take it back due to the horror stories on these forums.

I've got an update:

  • I have received a full refund for the wrap
  • I have new OEM stripes sitting in my closet
  • I have spoken with several other shops about stripe and wrap install

I'm still in a net deficit right now as the paint has to be corrected, but I'm confident that the shop that does the wrap will be able to fix it as part of pre-wrap leveling process. I could have fought for this, but it's time for a clean break and moving on.

The up sides to this whole experience:

I got to see the factory paint boogers under wrap, and they're not pretty, so I corrected two on the hood and two on the trunk. They look fantastic.

I get to level the paint under the stripes! The orange peel in the paint is most obvious in the stripes, at least on a white car.

I've learned a lesson (at 39!) to not treat this car too preciously. The more I treat it with kid gloves, the less fun it is, and that entirely defeats the purpose of owning it in the first place.

I think a full wrap might be a mistake after all. I was inspired by what I saw others do, but I think it's overkill. If it were a GT3 I'd want a disassembly of the car and then wrap of all edges, but it's not. It's a Mustang with shit factory paint. Now I get to undo that and get several thousand dollars back*.

*The balance of $$ will go to membership in my local Motor Sports Ranch "Country Club" and consumables. I live ~20 minutes from there. I plan to go a lot. :headbang:

Do they understand this is a GT350R? Not one of those new money exotics that anybody can just walk in and order without an issue as the price drops by the minute. Full refund - don't let them touch the car anymore.

Couldn't have said it better myself. At first I was like a lot of guys on here. I was looking into getting the car Xpel'd before I even had it. Now, I'm like F it. Put that money towards a couple track days and use the M F'er for what it was made for!! :headbang: IT IS JUST A CAR!
