The sound tube is a blasphemous waste of money that should have been invested in better build quality, let's be real. :)

The Steeda strut tower brace supposedly makes it easier but I haven't checked the oil with that on yet.

I think it's that you can pull through it. But it probably doesn't matter .

Wow suddenly this thread is all about ripping out the sound tube.

There's another member that's been working on his used 2015 GT that did this in a really nice way - green car, lots of carbon fiber, runs it at the track a lot, a CA member. I flashed through his "build" thread and he took this thing out in some elegant way.

The Steeda brace is open in the center. I doubt jamming my hands through it would make it any easier, and it would have to bow up a lot more for it to not be in the way. Also the factory brace that goes from the struts to the extension plate on the fire wall is really the member that's in the way. Steeda doesn't sell one they make. Ford Performance does, and that's what I installed. Therefore, that wouldn't be in the way if I went with Steeda's.

On my 2018 removing the sound tube made checking the oil a lot easier. I think the cab is much quieter. The exhaust sounds great and pretty loud.

Funny. This is one of the first things a friend of mine pointed at and said 'what the hell is that thing?' and I didn't have an answer. That was about a week after picking up the car.

I'll probably remove it, cap the ends and see what I think of the difference. I tried explaining this to my kids (10 and 14) and they both rolled their eyes and agreed we should probably yank it out.

Naw, I asked your lady friend instead...

Seriously, you should invest more time in reading.

I pull the dipstick out in the space in front of the strut bar and behind the large round part of the sound tube contraption. Putting the stick back in I go through the same area and reach my hand behind the strut bar and grab the stick to help feed it back into the tube a few inches at a time. I use a flashlight to light the area so I can easily find the dipstick tube.

I just use the left hand to pull it out and I'll end up using the fingers on the right hand to guide it a bit so it pulls up as vertical as I can get it before it bends around the strut tower brace. I'll check it a couple times to make sure the level reading is accurate.

It became easier with the sound tube removal.
