I am only about 350kms on the odometer and I already have scratches on the top of the rear bumper from the trunk lid rubbing. I've adjusted the rubber stoppers to increase the gap, but it seems the center is still pulled down too far. I'm going to see if I can adjust the striker where the trunk lid latches to today after work, then probably see if I can buff out those scratches. They're not visible if the trunk is closed, but it's a bit ridiculous that this is happening.

I would take it into the dealer but by the time I drive there, drop it off, pick it up, I could have probably fixed it in my parking lot already.

I noticed this on mine about 2 weeks ago. I'll try adjusting the spacers. Thanks.

How do the trunk lid bumpers adjust? Do they screw in/out ... didn't look like it to me. They looked like they just pop into the trunk lid and are the height they are when installed.

My trunk lid top surface seems to sit pretty flat with the top of the rear fenders, but the gap between the bottom of the center piece is smaller than the gap beneath the tail lights, but the center pieces is not rubbing on the top of the bumper. Maybe that's as good as it gets. Should probably just leave it alone since the top of the lid is flush with the top of the rear fenders.

The latch height is very easy to adjust and may help with this. My trunk required a good slamming to shut, but was luckily not low enough to scratch the paint.

I did post a couple weeks ago pictures from my rear bumper with the scratch as long as the plastic cover of the trunk lid.

My Mustang is now already 3 1/2 weeks in the shop for alignment issues including the trunk lid - bumper issue. Until now the shop doesn't know how to fix the crooked back of the car.

I did adjust the bumpers - you just twist them. They only get about a full turn in each direction.

I also pulled the plastic panel to adjust the latch. It's held by 4 plastic screws that look like they also hold the cargo net if you have it. Just unscrew those, pull up and out. Loosen the two screws on the latch and adjust. I found it best to back them off til just a little loose, then close the trunk and adjust, otherwise your trunk will come out of line with the fenders. It is much easier to close now. If it keeps scratching, I'll probably just throw down a strip of "3M stoneguard" there.

You can't be serious with that. Honestly? And please don't get me wrong now. I am dealing with the bodyshop to fix these issues and not even they know how to fix the crooked rear end of the Mustang. Everyone who has these issues should ask FORD to fix it. And not trying to fix it in the garage. FORD got a lot money for these cars from us. To much money for me to let a trunk lid cutting in the rear bumper. My car isn't bought for me to park it and let everyone look at it. It is my DD. A trunk lid is moving around every day someone drives his car. Ford should know that by now after many years in business.

I have no problems if people adjusting seats and mirrors before they drive but alignment issues should be fixed in the bodyshop from FORD and not in a owners garage. :amen:

I agree. I may be just one of little faith. When I went looking into how to fix the trunk rubbing issue, and to see what other cars have had this problem, it seems a very large numbers of various makes and models have this same issue. If nobody can get it right, I don't have that much faith that Ford will either.

I haven't concluded if the scratching was occuring from the effort to close the trunk, resulting in "overslam" where the trunk hits the bumper when closing, or if it is something that happens while driving. Car bumper covers are quite flexible and could have enough flex at speed due to the aerodynamics to have the trunk lower from downward force, and the bumper to "raise" when flexing from air underneath the vehicle. We will see if the adjustments I made were enough to keep it from scratching further.

Either way I will agree as well that I was very unimpressed to have such an issue only a couple hundred kilometers in.

I had this issue with my 2007. You would think by now they would have solved the issue.
