Chains on 265/35-20 Tires?

The Ford manual advises against using snow chains or cables on this tire size. I already have snow tires, but want to carry chains just in case.

Anyone here have any luck with putting chains on 20" wheels?

Given your location, where are you going to be driving that you think you're going to need chains, much less winter tires?

I keep a set of these. Well, not exactly those but ones like them that fit my 18" wheels. Maybe you could get some that fit 20's.

I doubt they'll hold up as well as chains but I also doubt that they will hurt the car as much as chains if they break.
Living in Atlanta I only carry them because I've driven to work in clear weather and gotten snowed in and getting snowed in at a hospital sucks.

Driving up to Colorado to ski next month. Legally snow tires are allowed on 2WD cars, but a skiing forum I'm in think I'm crazy and suggest getting chains too.

I wouldn't risk running normal chains on anything the factory advises against. I don't have any for the Mustang, but I had a set of Thule K-Summits for my Jetta like the picture below. These generally clear anything that would be an interference with normal chains since they don't wrap around the back side of the tire. They're super easy to put on as well, though are pricy.

Chains are for deep snow. Unless Colorado doesn't plow their roads, you'll be just fine.

I drove across Michigan after a massive snow storm in my 2005 GT with all-season tires. Basically just following behind the plows. If you've got serious winter tires, they'll work just fine unless it's in deep snow.

Where are you putting your skis?

Yeah all the ski people were saying get a subaru or chains. But I'll be driving on an insterstate so it should be reasonably plowed unless it's during a blizzard. I would just pull off and wait it out at that point.

I got a SeaSucker roof rack for them. My subwoofer ruled out fitting them inside with folded down rear seats.
