Cervinis Hoods

Hello everyone have a question.
I just received my GT 500 hood from Cervinis and I found this thread cause I had some fitment issues.
I was wondering.
For those who have installed the GT500 hood from Cervinis on there 2015 did you have to use shims on the bottom hood bolt, the one closest to the windshield so it would line up with the body on both sides by the windshield and the fenders by where the hinges are?

I had to shim mine. Seems like a common issue. I'm an old body man and I was able to tweak the hinges a bit when I was pre-fitting the hood prior to painting it. In the end I only needed about a 1/8" spacer to make it almost perfect. Didn't have to adjust the fenders at all.

May I ask what did you do with the hinges? I was looking to try and do something with them also so I don’t use too many spacers. I have some body work experience. I just didn’t want to mess anything up. Do they have any adjustment available where they are mounted to the body?

Have you looked at the Hertz hood?

No I haven’t. What’s up with that one?

I don't think there's much of an adjustment in the hinges. I didn't feel like removing the fenders to find out.
I went a little "Old-School" on it. I reinstalled the old hood and used a chunk of a 2x4 and stuffed it in the opening of each hinge with the hood open and slowly pulled the hood down. This pinched the 2x4 in the hinge and used the leverage of the hood being lowered to tweak the hinges and raised them by about 1/8 inch. This takes some skill and patience to know how much pressure to apply to get the desired result. I actually went just a bit too far on one side and put a teeny dimple on the top of the fender from the hinge pivot pushing on it from the underside. I was able to tap it back down with a body hammer and it's barely noticeable.

Wondering if I should have went with the aluminum GT500 hood but too late now. Went with Cervinis because it’s a well known brand.

It’s a really cool hood and and it’s not fiberglass (so not as heavy). They also put them on the Centennial Edition GT’s for Carroll’s 100th birthday.

i have Cervini on my car they said when i bought it to replace the brand new ford perf struts with their own due to weight and they work perfectly only had ford set on for a month

I went with the Cervini hood strut kit. They hold the hood up just fine but are not strong enough to lift the hood when you pull the release lever but that's more related to the latch spring that's too weak to lift this monster. I didn't remove the factory prop rod and usually just use it anyway. I had a small piece of PPF installed around the prop rod hole to keep it from scratching the paint.

I looked at the Ikon aluminum hood too. I didn't go that way because I don't like the fake hood pin indentations that many are reporting do not line up properly to anything underneath, or the look of the transition between the rear style line of the hood and the rear fender ears. And, I could not get a definitive confirmation that the washer jets could be transferred or otherwise installed.

I really liked the stock hood and for a brief time considered installing hood vents in it. At that time the corrosion issue was relatively mild. Over the last few years it spread. It was either chemical strip the whole hood, alodine and repair the pitting then prime and paint or go with a new hood. I totaled the cost and it wasn’t too far from the new hood cost.
I considered the aluminum GT-500 replacements but read somewhere that they were made of thinner metal and since I am in the south where parts of pine trees rain down the whole year I decided to go with the fiberglass.
it took a while to get but the painted surfaces were spot on perfect color match. The shipping company Cervini used was fantastic and even helped uncrate and unwrap the hood.
It did take some shims to get fit perfectly some on the hinges and some underneath the top fender bolts but it went on easily. I like that the washer nozzles went right in with a little modification.
One thing that my striping guy noticed was that the hood vent is a little bit off. I didn’t notice until he went to lay the “over the top stripes” on. I ordered the factory stripes for the hood (And Ford is proud of them.). Due to the contour they don’t fit without some convincing. They are not lazer straight but as it sits I like it.
I went with the Cervini hood struts and still have the prop rod as I don’t want the hood to slam shut in the wind. One negative thing is that the MMD radiator close out panels that I waited a year for don’t fit anymore. I still may see if I can modify them to fit. Cervini makes a good product and I would recommend their products to anyone who is looking.

The hertz hood is awesome. Pretty sure I’m going with the super snake hood myself

The website says it’s steel, not aluminum, so that’s probably why it’s so heavy. That’s disappointing because I really like that hood.
