I have the B&O, so it came with a CD player. It's well hidden. I need to remember to try it some time and at least make sure it works.

I need to try HD radio some time too.

I'm old, but my music is all on a flash drive, or I use Sirius.

Flash drives are great, but when you have to use layered menus on a touchscreen to access it.....

If I was planning a short trip I'd just grab a stack of CDs I wanted to hear and hit the road. I can pop a disc into a player without looking. Oh, wait, I used to be able to....

Satellite radio sounds like ass. In addition to a huge record/CD collection, I'm somewhat of an audiophile, to the point of using vintage tube gear at home.

It is so simple to rip CDs to MP3s that it is hard to believe how many people do not do this.

It is a good idea for no other reason than to have backups to your CDs that will inevitable degrade and might become unusable. You should keep the CDs in storage as they are technically your digital rights license to the burned MP3s.

How so, exactly?

I have CDs dating back to when they first appeared on the market, that look and sound the same as they did decades ago. I consider them far more stable than a digital copy....

Many decades ago I walked into my high school math class and saw a strange looking keyboard, a printer, and what I found out was a modum. The teacher came in, pointed at the keyboard and said, "See that, that's a computer terminal, and it's connected to the big computer at the University downtown. It does great and wonderful things. DON'T TOUCH IT". I have been technology challenged ever since.
The reason I bought a GT Premium was because it came with the B&O sound system which has a CD player, and that was technology I could use. I don't really like the SIRUS radio that much, and what the hell is a MP3, or USB. I like listening to music on long trips, and cruising, but I want to listen to what I want and not some random selection by a dick jockey. Maybe I should take the time and find out what a MP3 is, but I don't have the time to learn how to spell compooter correctly.
Besides, I'm still blown away by the sound quality of CDs over LPs.

The voice commands work really well. I seldom use the touchscreen.

Agreed, satellite radio doesn't sound great, but I grew up listening to 8 tracks.

Meh, it's this whole concept of there being some kind of chemical breakdown, but I've seen dozens of tests, all sorts of expert analysis, and it still seems to be more a case of poor original media and/or extreme environmental exposure, otherwise, some people say a typical CD-R will last 100-200 years, way longer than the tech, or us, or the f***ing planet probably will :D

I did check out my CD player, I've got the B&O, popped in Mezzanine by Massive Attack (stellar album), sounded pretty amazing sitting in the garage, tried it with the top up and down for the heck of it. Occasionally I'll grab a CD that I might not have ripped, I mean, I have hundreds I haven't because I'd just as soon listen directly from disc (usually this is stuff I'd only listen to at home, where I want the best music experience), and I don't really need to add them to my already massive Apple iCloud library.

I also have 100s of GB of digital music, some ripped, some bought, __most__ paid for as I like to support the creator (and music rights / streaming deals, are paying the artists way better than they used to).

Generally I use my iPhone via CarPlay, with music downloaded locally to the device, but I've used a USB drive, and the CD player should even support MP3 on optical, though I'd likely never use that.

*snicker*, I used to have TBs of video (16TB of NAS storage), but even those I finally replaced with proper copies :D

Yeah, I've got a 5.5 80GB iPod, aka "video ipod", I've tossed it in the car a few times for the heck of it, still works great. I was even running Rockbox on it for a while, it's a totally alternative firmware, free, adds all sorts of crazy features like alternative CODECS, super fancy UI (and themes), etc. :D

I remember 8-track tapes. I wanted one real bad. All I had was an AM radio in my 70 Dodge Challenger. Now I have more ways to play music in my car than I can understand. Hopefully I can figure it out. Then again, I had a lot of fun in that Challenger, and so far, I've hardly listened to anything in my Mustang and I can't wait to drive it again.

Funny you mention that. Had a friend back in the day who had a yellow '70 Dodge Challenger who had an quad channel 8-track tape player. Listening to Edgar Winter "Frankenstein" was pretty cool in quad channel. Yes, they had special quad channel tapes and players way back in those days.
