You guys are lucky. Out here in Nazifornia, we have visual and sniff tests. We can't even pass with high flow cats...must be OEM. Can't pass with any part that is not CARB approved. Good thing I have 5 years before my first smog. After that it's every other year. I want headers, but not sure it's worth the effort of having to take them off to smog.

So happy my parents moved from Jersey to Florida back in 1993, no rules on cars or guns lol

Actually if your car is 2000 and newer you no longer have to pass a sniff test they just plug into your computer and make sure everything is running ok. You just have to find someone to look past the visual test ; ). Plus like you said no testing for 5 years that's why I got my catless headers on so I can enjoy them without having to worry about finding someone to "help me out" with smog visual.

I had CATS on my 2011 GT and gave me lots of P1 codes etc... this time around I went with no CATS and not have to worry about codes and smog for 6 years.

And it would be good w out CATS if you go FI in the future.

I live in CALI btw idk how other states operate smog

I also went with no cats and live in California. I was really afraid of the car smelling bad with no cats but these damn things run so clean it's not to noticeable lol. Only thing now with my exhaust the car is extremely loud but I can handle that.

It is not just California, removing the cats is a Federal Violation.

I don't think anyone has even flow tested the stock cats. I know they have many running stock SC setups running just a cat back system at over 600hp.:headbang:

You know, I was worried about the smell as well, too as I have ran other catless set ups on other cars and it smelled like rotten eggs when I sat at a stop light. This one doesn't, even with the windows down. Pretty dope.

Exactly except my cars used to smell like raw fuel and would smell up the interior of my car and my cloths and skin haha.

The rotten egg smell is from cars that have cats,u dont get that smell when running no cats. Most states even when the rear 02,s are turned off can tell when u have no cats or a cat problem because the 02 moniter will not complete a drive cycle,if so that is a automatic fail even if the cel is not on.I have no cats, put the mak delete pipes on but will have to put my stock mid pipes back on to pass emissions.

Having cats will not give you fault codes(don't know what you mean by P1 codes?, you would get P0420/0430 with cat issues).

That's interesting...didn't know that. Haven't had to worry about it in a while. I was catless on my WRX, but I bought it new and had it 3.5 years. If only I could find a smog hookup. On E85 it would pass the sniff anyways with no cats!

Haha, you and me both. I guess the first point is that every state has different emission laws?

Is everyone saying, for example, I currently have SW's cat back system.....If I install their LTHs with the high flow cats it's guaranteed that i'm going to fail inspection? I live in NJ by the way, in case anyone knows offhand :)

Just not looking to have to remove the damn things 5 yrs down the road JUST to pass inspection.

Is the trick to have a custom tune that will fool these tests? Is the trick to go to one of the non-state inspection places and toss the guy doing the inspection a hundred to "overlook" this part of the test? Would that even be possible for a tech to do that? lol I'm just throwing things out here....

If you guys are truly worried about emissions then leave the stock cats alone. It's that simple. If you absolutely positively need long tube headers be prepared for extra work getting them to pass emissions, more than you can learn from a single internet thread.
