I blew my engine the day after I got my supercharger installed because my cats melted. They were bbk high flow cats. I would definitely get rid of them if I were you.
not saying it's impossible. but how? i could see bending valves but i don't call that blown

not saying it's impossible but how
cats melted and exhaust no longer had anywhere to go. happens under high loads on boosted cars. insane amounts of heat then gets shoved back into the engine and just melts it.

If you are going boosted take the cats off or go NA/low boost and be very aware no long hard pulls or repeated pulls

What cats are the GT500 OR hellcats use? Can you just buy those and install? Are the OEMs not stamped?

has to have a C.A.R.B number or a E.O number
More proof it is not about clean air. If it passes the sniff test it should pass, even with no cats.

I believe them to be ceramic substrate like the stock mustang gt, just larger.

I discussed this on the other cat thread but the hellcat has programming to limit temperature rate-of-change/thermal shock. The gt500 goes into cot (<0.7 lambda) about 2 seconds after going wot.

We don't sniff test odb2 cars. A visual inspection that nothing has been modified or if it has the proper EO is in place. Then a scanner is placed on the odb port to check for smog readiness and if an aftermarket tune as been installed. That's the major issue here in CA.

If it was about clean air they would sniff test. If it passes you should be good to go even if it passed with no cats.

So would gutting the factory cats but keeping them looking like stock work? Maybe also clear engine codes before you go in.

You could gut them but it would trip the dreaded p0420 p0430 cats below threshold failing you. Clearing the codes would need the ecu to reset to inspection ready which takes either a set amount of key cycles or miles driven. If the issue hasn't been retified the cel would trip again failing you

they make o2 sensor adapters that have a little cat in em, BTW, that just filters the air the O2 sensor reads as it flows through the open pipe :D
