Anyone who has tried to check the transmission fluid level on the Mustang 10R80 knows how hard it is to do because of the location and the hot catalytic converter. I'm pretty sure prior Ford transmissions had a standpipe built into the pan that let you get the fluid to the correct level by heating up the fluid and opening the standpipe in the pan to let the excess flow out. Is there any reason that an aftermarket transmission pan could not be designed with this option?

Anything can be made but it is the cost of producing such an item against how many would be sold.
I suspect if you asked everyone on here 20% would say they would have one but even if it was $250 ( it would probably be more than this ) I suspect come the day only 20% of those people would actually go through with the purchase.
What is needed is a full length dipstick/ filling tube. Should be a lot cheaper to produce and easily replaced if damaged by the heat of the exhaust.

Everything you say is true. What I'm hoping for is one of the aftermarket makers of aluminum transmission pans would incorporate it into their pan. They may have to move the drain plug and enlarge the hole but other than that the mechanism for the tube is quite simple.

I think Mishimoto or B&M could probably pull this off since they already make aftermarket pans for the 10R80, but you're right the demand would have to be there to justify the engineering costs.

Thank for pointing that out, I sent them a request to manufacture one for the 10R80, we'll see if anything develops.

Don't know if the GM pan is still interchangeable with the Ford pan but during development, GM was using a stand pipe. I don't know if they kept it for production after they went their own way with a less complicated valve body and controls strategy. Something to look into......

Per your suggestion I did a little research on the GM 10L80 and I do see aftermarket pans with a standpipe. I also saw one Youtube video of a 10-speed 2021 GM truck with an original equipment pan that had the standpipe. Trying to figure out if the aftermarket pan will fit a Ford 10R80 and if the standpipe is at the correct height is my next quest. Thanks for the suggestion.

They do make one, it's universal and flexible but it works. 37 bucks on amazon.

Even tho they claim its for trucks, it will fit an S-550 with a 6r80 or the 10r80 because ford made the threaded hole where the dipstick would go the same on 4r75's, 6r80's and 10r80's. I routed mine up and around the back of the engine and over to the passenger frame rail far away from the exhaust and I bolted the top bracket to an existing hole on the shock tower.

When you pull the stubby dipstick out of your 10r80 you will see it is already marked. leave the universal tube and dipstick fully assembled and match it up with the stubby and just transfer the full mark over to the universal one with the corner of a small file. FYI, the universal tube ships to you coiled up pretty tight so straighten it out and put some weights on it or tie it down flat for a few days. You will see the dipstick stick out a little farther when you straighten it out, you don't want to mark it while its coiled up, your mark will be off.

It's a universal dipstick and tube, you will need to use a little backyard ingenuity to make it work. If it was about 2" shorter, it would have fit a lot better, but I made it work. BTW, the hole for the dipstick is in the traditional place, in the front corner on the passenger side on both the 6R and 10R80's.

Does anyone know how much the level rises between cold and hot ? I know its not an exact science but it would be useful to know if you have at least got it close when you do a cold fill.
