I am buying a new Cold Air Intake. Is there a consensus for which are the top brands to get?

I have a JLT right now. Whoever owned the car prior to me, messed it up bad. The neck for a vac line is snapped, it has vac leaks all over it, including at the MAF.

PMAS (top mounted and fender mounted versions) and JLT

Some also say just a drop in K&N filter in a factory air box works well.

If your ever gonna go FI then get a drop in k&n or airraid filter or nothing and save for FI. Otherwise PMAS fender. JLT and top mount open boxes get so fucking hot…

I really like the Corsa carbon fiber one. Light AF with a nice closed box and massive filter. IATs are typically 3-4 degrees over ambient.

What is a FI? Is it the closed box?
FI is Forced Induction. A turbocharger or supercharger system of some design.

Closed box is sealed, always drawing from the cooler air of the grill snout.

Unless you have a tune I would stick with the OEM box with a dry washable drop in filter. I bought a Roush CAI that is CARB compliant, ( I live in Commiefornia). With all the butt dino testing that I have done, I cant tell any difference from the factory system. I think when it comes to the air box on a none tuned 5.0 Ford did get that one right.

Butt dyno is not a great way to determine power gains my friend. You will not feel a 5 or 10 HP on a near 4000 pound car with driver. It’s statistically 1%. But those 1% gains can add up and that’s how you beat the guy in the other lane.

I bought a Mishimoto CAI used off of eBay 5-6 yrs ago. The change in throttle response made it worth doing. With the CAI installed, throttle response is immediate and with the stock air box not so much. Really noticed this when I put the stock air box back on to take my car in for warranty work. I have no before and after HP numbers and my engine/exhaust is otherwise stock.

I think the difference is that the intake pipe is a bigger diameter around the meter compared to stock. Also it has none of the anti resonance appendages that the stocker has which might affect flow. Finally, the cone filter the CIA uses likely has more surface area than the flat panel air filter. The Mishimoto CAI draws air the same way the stock air box does, so no change there.

Order a replacement JLT tube.
Stick with what you have it’s a proven system.
Call JLT and talk to a sales or tech representative you never know if a deal can be made on a replacement.

So much of this is a placebo effect....
When they say "No tune needed!" ...yea, agreed.

But a CAI with a good tune? You won't regret it.
Makes the car angry and much more fun.
